It really suprises me about how little some people know about food. almost got in to an arguement to day with a lady at the gym. I'm just going to tell you what she said and you can see why.

1.You can eat all the sodium that you want because you just sweat it out anyway.
2.you always have to add salt to your food or it wont taste good.
3.People never stick to diets because the food tastes so bad.
4.You can eat whatever and whenever you want as long as you eat some veggies with it. (her examples included pizza. she did mention that she can eat 3-4 slices as long has some steamed veggies)
5.Always eat a big bowl fruit before your meal so that way you get full and dont eat to much.

i stopped listening after that..........

Geeze! That is so ridiculous it sounds made up! Actually, I take that back, I don't think you could make that up!!

I hope she does some research to get her facts straight!! Or, even more, I hope she doesn't share these current "facts" with others, scary thought!!

Oh my goodness. I don't know what I would have done if I was talking to a person like that at the gym. Was she delusional?

WOW! Um...not to make it about weight, but I'm assuming this was not a skinny lady...otherwise she's like an olympic level swimmer or something (I heard some crazy stat about how much michael phelps eats a while ago, but he trains for hours every day).

5 didn't sound too bad, a lower calorie snack at the start of your meal probably isn't a bad idea...the rest seems pretty flawed though. LOL kinda sad for her.

I would have NOT gottent into an arguement with her. I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person. I WOULD have been staring at her big, fat, stomach while nodding my head and saying MMMMHHHMMMM.

The rest are out of whack, but I don't see #5 as being harmful or bad advice. The more of a low-cal substitute before you eat that sodium-filled pizza, it's less likely you're going to be able to gorge yourself with too much food.

Isn't it funny how people who don't have a clue like to share their "knowledge"? I taught a women's circuit training class and one of my clients asked me if it's ok to lift 2 days in a row (implying that she lifts the same muscle groups 2 days in a row) and before I could answer her, another client chimed in and told her that it was completely ok and that she does it all the time....it's like the blind leading the blind! If that had been me, I wouldn't have walked away from the argument!

lol!!! I've heard about the fruit & that's not a bad idea but not a bowl! lol A serving would be okay. I admit I don't eat enough fruit. I've been good about eating my 2 servings of veggies per day (one at lunch, one at dinner). People think they know so much about nutrition and health but they just HEAR stuff. Geez. I know a lot about nutrition & health because I've EXPERIENCED it. And I'll admit I'm a know-it-all. I've been told I am my whole life and it's not going away...but at least I'll tell you when I was wrong about something and I tell you to do this because I've done it and it's worked for ME.

Ah, people crack me up. Guess I'll have pizza & broccoli for breakfast! lol

i agree with you on that...
i remember doin the same thing! i had it all! (of course it was my cheat day) and only gained a lb.. which is funny... i guess.. but i end up losin it twice as fast. so it didnt bother me to much... cause i drank down my water like i couldnt not drink another xD

i just find it funny how people would just want to believe anything and still lose the weight... without looking at the true meaning and true facts about things. that they arent really sure about. their just so insecure. that they dont really want to change. they think just cause i workout. i can eat whatever i want. maybe in the first phrase. but once you start to hit the next phrase. you are stuck and you wonder why? its cause you believe in all that stupid nonsense.

    *rolls my eyes*

Did we all know everything there is to know about healthy eating when we started? I know I didn't, those seem a bit extreme but I have no doubt some on here still have thoughts on food that are far from accurate. But as we did, they will learn too & begin to create healthier habits & then pass those onto others.

I'm still learning everyday what works better for me now than in the past.:flowerforyou:

Paying it Forward with knowledge is a wonderful concept:heart::wink:

Obviously an ignorant person... but come on, number three is true (except for the hyperbole part of "never"). Junk food tastes better, that's why I got fat.

This is ALMOST as good as the lady at my gym asking me to please stop running because she was on the phone and couldn't hear the other person because *I* was being too loud.

    Ignorance.

2.you always have to add salt to your food or it wont taste good.

From a culinary standpoint, this is almost true. Salt brings out flavors in food, and actually makes a food taste more like itself, by essentially "charging" the taste buds. That is why every recipe always calls for salt, and actually culinary schools spend a LOT of time talking about salt and seasoning, and how to properly season food and add correct amounts of salt without adding too much or too little.

I add salt to everything I cook, and I average about 1500 mg's of sodium a day.
