I have a question.

For a while i had been using an app called pacer to track my steps, this app says i have walked 10.5km today for a total of 15,299 steps. I put my age, weight, height, etc into this app and it also tells me i burned 491 calories.

MFP also tracks my steps on the phone app, it is saying i walked 15,299 steps also for a total of 10.67km but it says i only burned 120 calories.

=/ so why is there such a large difference?

One might be weight adjusted. Heavier people burn more calories for the same steps.

Well then it's time to offer a live sacrifice to the algebra gods. Maybe a chicken.

Mfp currently has an issue where the calories burnt from walking steps are not being counted correctly. They claim to have fixed it in the latest version, but it's nowhere accurate. It's been very frustrating for a lot of people. I personally know you can burn more than 250 calories from walking 25,000 steps!

I would suggest going with the lower estimate. If you are trying to lose weight it will help. If you are in maintenance and are losing weight then up the estimate until you hit your maintenance.
