So I started up the app today and edited my starting info and it says I need to only eat 1200 calories per day. I'm starting to exercise today but 1200 seems a little low. Should I be consuming more?

MFP bottoms out at 1200 calories for a female. Odds are you set a goal that's too aggressive.

What's your height & current weight? What did you choose as a pound per week loss goal?

If you're exercising you are meant to eat the calories you burn from that. So if you burn 150 calories in your workout, you get to eat 150 more calories.

Also it's important to make sure your goal is not too aggressive for how much you have to lose.

1200 PLUS exercise calories. So if you burn 250 calories for example during your workout you'd eat 1450. Also if you think it is too low you can set a less aggressive weight loss goal.

I've been on 1200 now for 8 months. Its doable for me, I exercise more if i want to eat more. I have 2 big meals a day and a snack or 2. Nothing overly complicated. Thing with 1200 calories for me is iv gotten so good at 300-500 calorie meals i can easily add in another just walking for an hour or so.

So yes its low but totally doable with practice.

This. The 1,200 is without any exercise burn factored in, so if you exercise you need to manually enter it and then MFP will adjust your calorie intake up for what you can eat that day :)
