Looking for support from women over 45 as it seems our journey is a little different once we hit mid 40's. Maybe we can support each other with support and issues we women struggle with and share tips and helpful ideas.

Yes the journey is very different when you hit the 40's. I have really never had a issue until I ran into issues with my back so now I am unable to move like i used too. The scale keeps going up so that is why I made this post cause after 40 some not only struggle with weight loss but we have other issues that may keep us from the gym or moving like we should. Good luck to you on your Journey in 2017.2 -

I AM 46 AND A WOMAN and I haven't had any trouble losing weight beofre or after 40. I explained and then you said goodbye, that doesn't seem very nice. So, now I'm confused too.1 -
I'm in. After years of abusing my back in the nursing field, I can not move as well as I would like. I am starting with some physical therapy for knee pain. My goal is to get back into gentle yoga a few times a week and walking and hiking again. And yes, It does get more difficult to maintain after 45.4

I'm in. New year, new me. Send me a request if you want to encourage and be encouraged. If you tend to only 'like' someone's logs once in a blue moon, probably best if you don't friend me. I want to really get to know people and talk about the issues that affect our weight and help each other LOSE weight this year! Otherwise, really, why are we here, right?7

I am here for support. Weight loss difficulties after 40 are often plagued with many issues (hormones just to name one!). Please send a request if you want an accountability partner! I struggle with hypothyroidism and type 2 diabetes. This year my health is my #1 priority. I plan to lose #30 lbs by summer. I will be using Atkins and alternate day fasting as recommended by my Endocrinologist along with moderate exercise 4-5 times weekly (minimum).4

I'm in as well. I am committed to getting healthy. I have always thought I can do this on my own, but I realize I do need support. I am going to eat healthy with lower carbs and high protein. I love to juice as well and I really do try to eat organic. I'm all in- plus I'm a great friend and live to see other women succeed !3

I'm 48 and feeling stuck after a challenging 2016. I'm looking to give and receive support in my journey to improved health. Trying to make it less about the number on the scale and even appearance. I just need to feel lighter and better.4

Love the way you think !1

I may just quietly lurk but I am in. Just turned 48 and find myself watching the scale go the wrong way. I am tired and need to get some #s off in order to regain some energy. I know I have used food as a crutch in the last couple years, undoing that is going to be empowering.2

I am definitely in. I have been struggling the last few years. My weight isn't budging much at all. I tried it alone and that didn't work so now I am trying to do it with friends. I need to get my cholesterol down now. Hoping that will happen once I lose about 40 pounds.2

I'm 59 and need to lose over a hundred lbs. The healthy eating part I understand and know what to do. What I a having struggles with is the exercise. I have arthritis in my back, hips and knees so movement can be a problem. Does anyone know of a gentle exercise cd or website that I can start slowly with?

I am nearly 44 and have lost 30 lbs in 2013 using MFP. Since then I have moved and have had stressful job and my 3 kids are much more busy. All in all these are the reasons I blame for regain. But I have found weight loss not so easy now. I am looking for support. Can I join even though I am 1 year too young4

I want in. I have 10 weeks until my 50th birthday & a goal to lose 10 more pounds & tone up so I look good in a bikini.
I never had a problem with my weight. I was about 125 my whole life until I hit 40, then the pounds started creeping up. My 45 I was pushing 160 & miserable. I hadn't changed my lifestyle too much so the weight gain was maddening. It really is different after 40.lcatala2012 wrote: »I'm 59 and need to lose over a hundred lbs. Do you have access to a pool? Anything done in water would be ideal.
Also try yoga focus on the breathing & the stretching.
If not, can you walk, even a little? Small steps on a flat surface will help. Gentle impacts not harsh stomping.
I used to do chair exercises with my mom when she was in her 80s. Sit in a straight hard chair. March -- lift your legs like your walking but don't get up. Do leg lifts-- Swing your legs up so they are straight in front of you & back down. Do ankle circles. Bend from side to side. Twist to look behind you. Raise your hands over your head in all directions. Add weights if you are able, even two cans one in each hand adds some resistance.

I also was in an accident last year - struck by a car as s pedestrian. I'm thankful to be so much better now, but the weight piled on while I was restricted (broken leg and concussion) and then I got in sedentary habits. Yoga has been incredibly helpful in my physical and mental recovery.

I will be 47 next month. It took me all of 2016 to lose almost 20#'s. I'm finding myself in an emotional place right now and where I was doing well with not eating emotionally, I am struggling again. I'm going to pick Beck's book back up (The Beck Diet Solution) and go through it again, but it's frustrating to find myself back in this spot. And yes, it IS more difficult to lose after 40. I am hypothyroid, have primary pituitary damage (which means less hormones produced), PCOS, massive insulin resistance, and peri menopausal hormones. Yep. It's frustrating. My goal for 2017 is to lose 40#'s. In the end, it will take me 3yrs to lose what I need to total (about 90#'s from the beginning). I keep telling myself as long as I'm going down, then I'm not staying in the same place I'm in right now. If I can keep brainwashing that into myself I might make my goal this year. Maintaining a tight deficit is absolutely critical for me, even with a lot to lose, because of the hormone issues. I find I have to be about 300 calories lower then MFP states for me. That puts me at 1200 if I stick to the minimum. That is sooooo hard to hold. I lift heavy which helps, but it's not a perfect fix.1

I lost 50 lbs. in 2011 when I was 49. It was hard especially as I was already post-menopausal at that age. Now I've gained about 30 lbs. back as I've been overeating and not exercising. I literally have about 5 outfits that I can squeeze into out of a closet stuffed full of cute clothes so I know it's time to do something. I know it will be even harder now that I'm 54 and being short and having a desk job doesn't help with the amount of calories I can eat to be in a deficit. That being said I'm ready to make changes! Feel free to add me if you want.3
