Per workout supplements?

Hey hey!
I've head about pre workout supplements- specifically ones designed to give you an energy boost. Anyone use these and like them? Is the energy boost just caffeine or something else? I work super early in the morning and am on my feet all day and while I'd love to hit the gym as soon as I'm home, sometimes I'm just too tired. Problem is, if I take a nap I often times end up never leaving the house again. Thoughts!

It's literally just caffeine. The majority of other added supplements aside from creatine have little to no effect on you. It sounds cheap and very non flashy. But if you are just getting into this drink a cup of coffee pre workout. It'll have the same effect as a pre workout aside from the $1-2 a serving for empty promises.0

Do you like fruit? For me it's a natural pre-workout.1

Mostly just caffeine and carbs. This can be done cheaper and easier with coffee with sugar.0

Lol at comparing caffeine and stimulants to fruit. Yep... fruit gives you tunnel vision if you consume enough of it.0

Not looking to start a fight but no, not just caffeine. Nitric oxide, arginine, beta-alanine, L-arginine, Taurine, Tyrosine, electrolytes. SOOOOO much more than just caffeine. Do your research. That being said I wouldn't bother using unless you're weight training. In that case, yes; coffee would do the trick.1 -
I get all hopped up on H2O and motivation!0

I just started using it and like it a lot better than coffee. Especially if you like milk/cream & sugar in your coffee, since that adds way more calories that the formula has it in. Coffee is harsh on my stomach, my pre-workout formula is not. I mean, it depends on what you are looking for, but I find that the pre-workout formula works well and doesn't leave me feeling overly full before working out. I too workout after work, and need a little boost.0

Who's comparing caffeine and stimulants to fruit? I'm simply stating that fruit gives me the energy I need for my workouts. If caffeine or pre-workout supplements work for you, then more power to you.2 -
Caffeine before a workout makes me feel jittery. I drink low cal gatorade before and after.1

Coffee is a good pre-workout. Makes me less jittery and sick feeling than actual pre-workout drinks like C4.0

I'm just saying that the effect from caffeine (which can be natural as well) and stimulants is not the same as a piece of fruit.
I'm not specifically referring to you either.

There was only one other person who mentioned fruit, so it was only natural to assume that you were referring to both of us.
Regarding fruit, I'm very much in tune with how sugar affects my energy level. And for me, fruit is actually a better alternative to caffeine or stimulants because it gives me a boost of energy without making me feel jittery (I don't drink a lot of caffeine and am therefore quite sensitive to it).
Sorry for the hijack, Liz!0 -
I take pre-workout supps every time before I go to the gym. It is important to cycle off of them from time to time since you're body will become "used" to it. They make stimulant and non stimulant varieties. I suggestion for a stim version, Stimul8. It is strong so use a half scoop until you are sure how your body will handle it. Cellucor makes C4 which is OK, but not very strong. Another I have used and like is GAT Nitraflex. I would recommend it more if you plan on lifting weights while at the gym. Be aware not to take these supps too late in the day or you may have trouble going to sleep. Hope this helps.0

I neither said that sugar has the same affect as caffeine or other stimulants. I was simply stating an alternative for the OP to try.0 -

So basically you want a preworkout to transport you to the gym. The thing is, even if you stumble to the gym with no chemical assistance, you'll probably get energized just from doing a cardio warmup with music playing. Then it's easy to step it up and have a decent workout. So i would just have a light snack containing carbs, take a short nap, and head to the gym. If can't leave your house after napping, nap at the gym.1 -

i have sooooo wanted to do that sometimes. except snoring and drooling and farting and such.
op, i find consistency easier if i do it on my way home. it can be a bit of a nuisance toting the shoes/whatever with me throughout the day since i bike. but i never follow through on 'i'm just going to change my shoes/clothes and then head out again.' so i gave up saying it to myself after a while.
once i'm home at the end of a day then i'm home. so if i want to work out then i need to prolong the day itself and fit it in that way, or it just doesn't happen.0
