I am female and currently 170lbs and 5"4-5"5. I have some motivation issues when it comes to eating healthily and exercising. For one thing, I'm in my final year of A-levels doing Maths, Biology and Chemistry so around revision, school and homework I hardly find any time to exercise. I also cannot control my eating habits to save my life and every time I feel like I could control what I'm eating, my brain tells me 'you're only going to die anyway so what's the point in eating healthily' and I eat it anyway.. I have quite bad depression, I was much worse before I started going out with my boyfriend, but the feeling of 'nothing matters' that depression brings can really hold you back.. Does anyone have an tips for feeling motivated to eat healthily and exercise. Also, if anyone can recommend any exercises that doesn't include impact on the ankles, knees, hips etc. that would also be nice as my physiotherapist told me I couldn't do any exercises with impact on those.. Thank you :)

Why not focus on one thing at a time? Since you struggle to both eat well and workout, focus on just eating better at first. I highly recommend meal prepping. Pick one day a week and prep all the stuff you'll need throughout that week. Line up snacks, too. This way, it's all ready to go and you don't even have to think about it. You can just heat it up and eat it and pop open a container and snack.

One thing that is really important, before you can dive head first into all of this is getting your mental health in check. I've dealt with very similar problems as far as school, life and depression go and honestly, the best thing is to get yourself in a place where you can push past the depression. When I say that, I don't mean obviously just pretend it's not there because that's not going to work but try things like pretending those thoughts are being told to you by someone you think is ridiculous. With my boyfriend who's a gamer, I tell him to pretend the thoughts are just some kid on xbox telling him he's the worst or whatever because why would he listen to what some punk kid who's just trying to get a rise out of him has to say? Also, you could try exercises as a way to combat the depression. It's been proven that exercise releases endorphins that make you happier. Try Yoga or pilates maybe? Both are quite mindful and can get you out of your head as well as give you some time to relax and not focus on school or other stressors. Not to mention, a lot of it is stretching and body weight. You could also try a stationary bike. My dad's had his hip and knee replaced and that's something he's been recommended by multiple doctors to do for low impact. Same thing for me as I have bad ankles from previous injuries. Swimming is another great low impact way to exercise! As far as food goes, try to change your snacking foods to fruits and veggies or something else and just track everything you eat. I find if I can see everything that I'm eating, good and bad, it motivates me to make better food choices.

Feel free to add me if you'd like!

I think the responses you have above are great. I admit I don't have much experience with depression, but as far as that part of your brain that's telling you 'what's the point in losing the weight?' We all have that! There is always a part of you that will hold you back and think 'why I am I doing all this?' or 'Why not just give up?'
Frankly I find it helps to think of the reasons that YOU want to lose weight. It doesn't have to be something deep or epic, like 'for my long term health' or 'I don't want to get diabetes' it can absolutely be something shallow like 'I want to look more sexy in a bathing suit at the beach', or 'I want to be able to wear these low cut tops'. As long as the reason is important to you, that's all that matters.
A big part of why I want to lose weight is so that I'm more successful with women. My health being better etc are just bonuses.
What I'm trying to say is that you need to find the reason that YOU want to lose weight, and once you have that, you'll find the motivation to eat better and exercise more will come much more naturally.

As a side note, I have been running a video diary of my weight loss journey so far, and the last couple days have been really tough for me. I shall continue with my diet, but just know we all have low points and bad days, your not alone like that.

Also the subjects you are taking are tough! Cut yourself some slack!

Thank you for your support :) it's helped a lot ^.^ I think I'll try and save up for an exercise bike x3 And my friend said she'd go to the gym with me until I got one so I could go on them ^.^ I hadn't thought about eating healthy stuff to fill me up instead. I used to eat basically nothing and now I eat a lot of bad foods so I thought it was basically all or nothing. However it seems I can finally use my obsession with watermelon and vegetable sushi for good x3 also, I know my reason for wanting to lose weight but I haven't thought about it in a long time :) thank you for making me remember. I'm also actually entering food items into my food diary now, so that's good xP but it makes me realize how much I eat..
