Okay so, last year I quit drinking pop, this year I'm leaving sugar in the dust and adding honey, and drinking more tea! What's yours?

Sugar cane is just a variety of grass.

Haha hey guys it's ok I think she means refined sugar- like sugar cane juice would be ok, but there's a lot of refining involved with making white sugar and it can be pretty addicting and it gives me acne.
I would say kick the honey too though, sweetener is sweetener. At least it's a little more close to real food than straight up sugar is, but it's still concentrated simple sugars, high calorie, high on the glycemic index - same as sugar actually, and almost a many calories (a little bit less since honey has water content).

Have you quit alcohol? That's a good thing to drop during weight loss.1

Or candy is just as good as fruit.
With regard to sugar, they're about the same ... but the fruit does have the benefit of fibre and vitamins and minerals which don't often appear in candy.

That's basically like saying you're giving up hot coffee and only drinking iced coffee. Same is same. Honey, sugar = same.5

If you're going to decide to give up sugar, you'll be giving up a long list of foods.

I gave up demonizing foods for no scientific or logical justification!
Actually I'm pretty sure I didn't do that to begin with and neither should you... it's great to have goals but you should make sure they are not contradictory and/or not beneficial. Honey and sugar are both composed of the same molecular substances. Trading one for the other doesn't really make sense, and either can be a component of an overall balanced diet in moderation.3 -

Neither are 'bad', it's peoples habits of over consumption that is 'bad'.4 -

^This. I am beyond tired of hearing about "healthy" and "unhealthy" foods, and how carbs and processed sugars are all or mostly bad for you, etc. No one wants to hear that they are simply eating too much.2 -
No resolution here. I did decide to start working on my form a bit more, and I'm going to be adding in pushups and situps to my home workouts along with some dumbbell exercises. But those are just ordinary changes that don't have much to do with January 1st.
LOTS of people seem to have made a resolution to join my gym, a Y in a small city. Never seen it so busy before. On top of everything else they're offering 5 days free.
If you want to join a gym, the Y is a great choice for beginners. Personal trainers are included and there are a lot of group and class activities. If you have kids it's a great place for families too.. oh, and if you have kids, make sure to enroll them in swimming lessons. I learned as a kid and I can still swim fairly well today. I do wish they had review lessons for adults who took lessons as a child and want to go over how to do the strokes properly and so on.1 -
Not a resolution, just another intermediate goal to lose a stone and a half (21lb) by June. Ish.0

My fitness goals this year are to continue what I've been doing to reach my goal weight and a healthy BMI, hopefully by the start of summer. Then to maybe lose 5 to 10 more pounds then reverse diet up to maintenance calories and switch to slow recomp & continue to progress in strength & stamina with my weight lifting & other exercise.
My other big thing this year is to reign in my spending and earn more $. I've already taken a few days to really analyze my budget and find places I can cut excess spending. And I have a plan for how to be more efficient with my time and work more.
I think those are enough. Any more than that and they're likely to not happen.0 -
I'm not giving up anything. We're limiting eating out though from weekends to once per month, and keeping it in line a bit (trying to pick healthier options, one drink, and going for a walk afterwards). I'm also just being healthier in general (workout out either before or after work + the bonus exercise of chasing toddlers around for 6 hours at work).
My goal is to be at a healthier weight and in better shape by my wedding in September and honeymoon in October (we're going to Colorado and plan to spend a good chunk walking, biking, and hiking). I've got a mini-goal of being down a couple of sizes when I start dress hunting in the next month or two.1 -
I'm not cutting out anything just eating less...I have to learn to be ok with being "hungry" and that it's not a red flag to stuff my face or I'll die..in fact, I'm embracing my hunger pains cause I feel like if I let myself be hungry till my next meal/snack I have pre logged into MFP than my stomach will shrink and eventually 1400 calories will keep me satiated all day.0
