Just so you know i think most doctors are less educated from a nutrition aspect then most every human being.
First let it be known that i read alot. Secondly let it be known i analyize very heavily everything i take in when i read. I don't just read one side of the story. I listen to both then i decide. Alot of people try to create self thesis's based on personal opinion and i suppose thats alright we're a free nation. My strength is to be able to apply knowledge and common sense to pretty much anything from a nutrition standpoint.
1.) Fiber- Oh boy isn't big pharma getting rich on this rip off of non necessity. I can eat 50G of grain fiber, psyllium , or any kind of vegetable fiber for that matter and it in fact really doesn't do much when it comes to transit time in the bowel. Sorry we're not cattle and although it provides some benifit from personal experience is just a waste of money. It doesn't really work. Water is important of course more so then fiber intake.
Common sense? I can eat a day of greens, fruits, veggies and not have a BM for a couple days. The alternative is i can have a fatty hamburger and fries and have a complete effortless movement the next morning. Is a Burger and Fries health food? Heck no not at all but the thing that gets things moving is FAT. Fat doesn't make us fat. We in fact out of fear of it don't get enough fats in our daily diet anymore. Healthy amounts of FAT are what moves our digestion along smoothly and not freaking weeds. I bet many folks can verify this consensus.
2.)Sugar- Sugar is not the enemy. I like sweet coffee and for 10's of years i've been drinking Coffeemate Hazelnut Creamer. It has 35 calories per tablespoon of worthless trash ingredients.. Sugar has 16 calories per tablespoon. I like coffee strong so it takes over 1/4 cup of the creamer to reach my acceptable level of sweetness. I only need 1 tbsp of sugar per cup to obtain the flavor i like. I drink 3 cups a day. Thats with milk so the math is roughly 200 calories per cup times 3 times 7 days a week for Coffeemate.
Thats about 4200 calories a week compared to milk 1/4 cup is 30 cal + sugar 16 cals times 3 times 7 days a week. So for the milk and sugar thats under 1000 calories a week so figured at a month @ 16,800 calories vs 4000 calories sugar wins with flying colors. Take the math for a year and there is a phenomenal waste of calories. Sugar is not unhealthy until you drink 14 tbsp per can of soda pop all day long. I don't drink sugar overwhelmed drinks very often.
3.) Macros- They don't mean squat. If you eat Meat, Fruits, Veggies and some dairy and grains your diet is in every aspect fine as long as your eating proper portions. I can eat anything and i do but i watch my daily caloric intake most days. Some days i don't and guess what i don't gain weight because i don't count. After eating proper portions and of some sort of calorie restriction for 6 months or more most people have it down by now lol. Macro monitoring is a total waste of time if you eat the basic natural food groups. Just say no to ALL processed foods if you can.
4.) Exercise. I don't do cardio, I don't do much strength training. My job is physical but its not heart racing work. I do heavy lifting off and on all day and drive a forklikft. I do about 50-100 pushups every day but thats it. I get exercise riding my Harley and working in my garden but i don't have an exercise plan or will i ever. I lost my weight by not eating junk food and reducing portions. Thats about all i did to lose over 50lbs. I eat sensibly and in moderation. Isn't that the lifelong key?
My advice to all members here is to use your head, question everything until you prove to yourself that the information you read is actually valid. There are too many i have the solutions and not enough people using common sense and recongnizing that its just as important as what you choose to put in your mouth as how much you put in it.
Fact:? Animal fat is far more healthy for you then man made fats. I mean come on when was the last time you squeezed an ear of corn or a handful of soybeans and got oil out of them. These are not smart choices. Engineered foods are not smart choices. Know what your putting in your body and more importantly ask yourself what benefit of what i'm about to eat is it to my body. Lard and Butter are more healthy fats then Mazola or Margarine. Good Luck

I wholeheartedly agree, especially with your last 2 paragraphs. While I *do* put more credit in macros than you do (mainly higher percentage of my caloric intake from protein), that's because of what I have discovered through personal trial and error - also one of your pillars here. So one in effect cancels (or proves/disproves?) the other and we still are on the same page.
