I understand this phenomena well! There have been periods in life where I make sure I have "bumps on a log" in the fridge before bed (celery with a little peanut butter down the middle and a few raisins or dried cranberries on top). I did this so that when I woke ravenous st 2:00 am, I had a healthy snack ready to go. For me, it was a matter of finding a low calorie, healthy snack that also touched my cravings some. I finally opted for this, because inevitably I would wind up eating a meal's worth of calories during the night. Sometimes, just a cup of hot decaf tea with a pinch of milk and honey would settle my hunger so that I could go back to bed.
I also realized that my midnight hunger meant maybe I needed to eat a little bit more during the day, or have a little snack before I went to bed. This meant it was going to take a little bit longer to lose the weight and I didn't like that idea; however, I realized that eating last night's dinner leftovers in the middle of the night was sabotaging my weight loss efforts way worse! So, I opted for the lesser of two evils.

I have this sometimes to, I have started saving calories during the day so that I can have a slice of toast before bed, that way I don't wake in the night hungry.
  • When is dinner and when is bed time? I have had times where I wake up feeling like I could eat a horse. It's mostly during PMS that this happens to me. I have been known to save some calories for a midnight snack so that I don't ruin my efforts. Other times I just try to go back to sleep. 2 am is a time for major weakness and zero resolve. I am much more likely to binge in the middle of the night than any other time.

I would recommend trying to drink an entire glass of water before giving in to your hunger, it could just be that you are thirsty! A low calorie bedtime snack should help too!
