Apple Watch

Anyone using an Apple Watch to track their fitness and exercise? I've moved from fitbit to this and I'm confused.
My Fitbit only gave me extra calories when I'd burned more than my weight and height should burn on average. But my Apple Watch is giving me them if I do any workout.
Also do you track walks as workouts? If I track it as a workout it adds calories on but doesn't fill my activity wheel. If I just let it be and the Watch counts it as exercise it fills the wheel but doesn't add the calories on?
Help!!!

I'm still learning. The activity wheel only fills when you do activity equal to a brisk walk. I read that somewhere. I'm not sure how it decides "brisk" because I take 2-3 mile walks (not strolls) and get less than 10 minutes' credit for activity.0
