Context is key. If you're wondering if a 4 lb variation in weight in 3 days is possible, then the answer depends on:
- Starting weight
- Diet
- Physical activity
- Weekly weight volatility
That said, any kind of dramatic weight fluctuation (which this may or may not be) is unlikely to be permanent and very likely to be unhealthy.

yes.. water weight. unless you are on some kinds of pills then it could be reaction to pills or if you are crazy over eating but that's probably the least doubtful. also ovulation and menstruation can do it too. i don't think it's a big thing to worry about unless you are over eating then i would go to moderate eating lol..2

But you have to remember weight isn't just fat and fast fluctuations are more related to water and food weight not fat.3 -

Yes! We see it all the time on here. People get up in the morning, jump on the scale and weigh anywhere from 1 to 10 pounds more than they did yesterday. Boggles?

I can 'gain' 5lbs in one day Your weight will fluctuate daily due to all sorts of things not related to actual fat gains.0

Easy, you could gain and lose that in a day. Best not to pay too much attention to individual weigh-ins. Weigh regularly, and instead analyse the overall trend.1

When you understand that not everything that registers on the scale is fat, the answer will become quite obvious...
Hint...yes it's possible...'cuz body weight isn't static...your body is largely made up of water...that fluctuates all of the time...water has mass and thus weight...also, varying levels of waste in the system, etc.
Actual fat? not likely...do the math.2 -

did you consume over 14000 cals in 3 days or did you consume half a ton of sodium and lots of water?
I gained 5 pounds over the holidays then lost 6. Shrugs.

3500 cals, 8 cups of water and 3500 + of sodium should just about cover it0

In 3 days of NGAF I gained 13 pounds from the sodium and other crap. It was all temp weight. I ate clean and drank water for 4 days and 12.5 pounds dropped off.
There was so much *kitten* "scientific data" from the twenties and thirties and forties that made you think we were actually gaining weight. It's so refreshing to see the amount of good valid, truthful information that's out on the web now that pertains to physical health. It's eye opening and makes you happy knowing that oh my God if I overate for 2 or 3 days I didn't instantly gain 40 pounds. I mean really? You're a 7'2 260 pound guy, you need to eat 1200 calories and nothing but strict vegetables for 2 years straight to lose weight. That was my mentality and what more than a few people told me over the years with their "educated insight" into fitness.0 -

Yep. One weekend of eating off track and I can easily gain 5+ pounds. Drink more water and get eating back on track and within a few days its back to normal.0

No. The feeling I was trying to convey was that society at large, up until maybe the last 20 years had it wrong on how to realistically lose weight. 7'2 guy can only eat 1200 calories?? Really? No. The health gurus attitude was the 1200 calorie a day diet, strict healthy food, no retreat no surrender attitude, you can't cheat at all etc...Which was wrong on how the body really works and how real food can be eaten. The fact that you don't have to be killer strict, just maintain calories, walk a little but PERSEVERANCE and the long run is what is needed. Diet changes tons of stuff I am not giving credit to.
But I do that sometimes. Sorry if I wasn't clear

Some CTO pain medications and cause weight gain. I take Aleve for my knee pain and will gain 2-3 pounds in a couple of days (it also causes constipation). Ironic, is it not?1
