Protein shake mix for weight loss. Should I be looking for more protein?

So i'm finding it awesome to have slim-fast as meal replacement for a meal or two a day. So far it has been great. But i'm told by my mother in law who lost a lot of weight that I should look for a protein shake with more protein. She said because the protein will help me burn the fat. Right now my slim-fast shake has 20g of protein if i'm not mistaken. I have a huge bottle of EAS whey powder that has 25g and is about the same amount of calories as slim-fast considering they say on the package I can use water instead of milk. It would save me some money if I could use it after my slim-fast is out. Al tho it is like 2 years old not sure if whey powder has a expiration date.
My question is: Being obese is should I be looking for more protein at the least amount of calories in my meal replacement drinks? Sorry i'm new and am trying to understand. So far for the past week I have been using slim-fast powder and blending it with milk and it has done the job. Fills me up pretty good especially when I use the blender to mix it.. It sort of air-ates it.
Thanks in Advance for the help.

From what I've seen, shakes are fairly close to each other. 20g seems like a fair amount for the drink. Adding milk gives another 6-8, I can't stand the shakes with just water. I'm no expert but I have learned a bit. Do what works for you and is something you can maintain for the long run. Drink plenty of water. Watch your calories but don't limit yourself to the point of always being hungry, you'll eventually binge. Starting is the hard part, plenty of advice will be given, not all accurate. Figure out what works for you and go with it, it's your journey. Good luck1

Protein doesn't help burn fat. It helps you feel satiated. You can most likely reach your protein goal with ordinary food.1

Protein also helps maintain muscle while losing weight.
You WILL lose fat and muscle when losing weight.
If you lift, and if you keep up your protein, you will tip it more towards fat than muscle, which hopefully means you are happier with the results when you have lost the desired weight.
A lesson I wish I had learned before I dropped my weight!
As to Protein burning fat, never heard of it myself and suspect it is woo

But it does have a higher TEF
OP no it won't make you lose fat faster. If you're getting enough protein already, you don't need to add any more.0
