High BP, High Cholesterol, & Elevated Blood Glucose

I wasn't really over weight but it wouldn't hurt to lose some weight. My biggest thing was BP, cholesterol, and blood glucose. I had to get them under control.
After 2 1/2 years of hearing my doctor say "diet and exercise" I finally lost my cool with him and told him to give me some guidance that meant something. He stuudered and stammered and I interrupted and asked why he never suggested a dietician of diet was all that important. Come to find out he had one in his office. So on October 22, 2016 I met with her. It was a great visit with lots of useful info.
So no FAD Diets here, just plain ole healthy eating with emphasis on no red meat but lots of seafood and chicken. Lots of veggies and fruits. Lots of leafy greens, whole grains......fiber.
So I have stuck strictly to this plan. I focus on my sodium intake, saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol. No processed foods. Carbs are fine as long as they are complex carbs. No fast food and if we happen to eat out I stick with a salad since restaurants are notorious for lots of salt.
Thru my work we have nurses from the local health department come in and do Vitality checks. They do weight, BMI, BP, cholesterol, and fasting blood glucose. They came in just before Christmas.
RESULTS: My BP is normal and about to come off one of my BP meds. I've dropped 24 lbs., all my cholesterol numbers are within normal limits, and my blood glucose has dropped 12 points. I couldn't be more thrilled.
Talk about something that is motivating.
Just a good healthy diet and plenty of exercise.

I failed to mention that I dropped two pant sizes along the way so I went out and bought some new jeans. Lol

Way to go! I started seeing a specialist in June of last yesr. My cholesterol and BP have come down, but my A1C and glucose levels are the same. I'm still in the prediabetic range, but I also have PCOS with insulin resistance. Hoping some medication will help with that.

Aren't the specialists amazing? Why there aren't more readily available or covered by insurance, I will never know.

Congrats on your progress!! That is amazing!

And surely our specialists are cheaper than our doctors sometimes.

I prefer a set of exercises and stretches from my physiotherapist than an anti-inflammatory from my doctor, and a dietitian can take the time to read my food journal to give me specific tips.

Our pharmacist gave us valuable advice on how to treat a nasty chest infection including which medications to avoid.

Don't get me wrong. My doctor's annual checkup reminds me what to watch out for. But for follow up and support I like the supporting health professionals.

Definitely. Exercise is such an important factor to the whole picture. On the weekends I walk 2 1/2 miles each day. During the week I hit the elliptical at home and I do some HIIT workouts.

I feel much better. I no longer have that constant fatigued feeling.
