low hormone birth control (TMI)

Has anyone here been put on low hormone birth control? I've been on a medium of the road sort of dose for about 8 years and then my blood pressure went up (most likely weight related) so my OBGYN put me on a low hormone contraceptive.
This month so far I've basically had my period for 18 days straight. It was the normal 5 days then tapered off into this infuriating light period until 2 days ago when I got another full on period AGAIN. Is this typical for low hormone birth control? Otherwise I feel fine, I'm not in a constant state of PMS despite the party my stupid uterus is throwing right now.

Haha I know I get stuck on it sometimes too after I post something :P It's from the anime Lucky Star's opening sequence, I love how bright and energetic it is so I put it in my sig
I have an appointment to see my obgyn on Thursday so I'm going to bring it up but I kind of wanted to know what to expect or if it's normal for this type of medication
It really sucks. 0 -
I had the same issue as you and Nuvaring has been easy with no problems.0

I got switched to low dose because of my blood pressure also. I got the generic brand and I went from a 2 day period to seven days, and it never started when it was supposed to. I asked my doc about it and she said generic has a few different ingredients than name brand, so I switched to Loestrin24Fe, my periods are lighter, shorter and only come every other month. Could be the brand you are taking, but I know everyone is different. I'd discuss it with your doc if you haven't already.0

I think I'm on low hormone birth control(I take Loestrin 24FE) and I don't think I've ever experienced anything like that when I started. It may just be your body trying to adjust to this new regimen of hormones. I know that for mine though, I have no PMS(well not really bad PMS) cramping or fatigue anymore since starting mine.. and that is a def. plus. My periods are also lighter and very regular.. and sometimes I don't even have one.. again, very nice.0

Have you talked to your OBGYN about it? What about Mirena or Paraguard? I personally love Mirena. I only have periods 2-3 time a year. It took my body about 3 months to adjust to it. I hated it at first but now love it. I spotted for 2mths, then had headaches for amonth, but now nothing!0

A side effect of BC with low estrogen is break through bleeding. Usually its just spotting. Your body is probably still adjusting to the new BC. Give it another month or so. There are different brands, so if this one doesn't work see if your doc will switch you. You can always call your doc or their nurse and explain whats going on, if they think there is something more than break-through bleeding they will have you come in.
I was always on law estrogen due to high blood pressure. Good luck, and don't be afraid to switch. I was on Alesse for quite some time without any problems. There is also Ortho-Tricyclen Lo, I was never on it though.0 -

Is Nuvaring a low hormone contraceptive? I actually looked into it a few years ago but never pursued it because I've just been on the pill for SO long.0 -
I'm not sure if my BC is low hormone (i have the implant) but I've been pretty much the same with bleeding , I bled for half of last month, had a 5/6 day break at the start of this month and I've been bleeding/spotting since then.
It sucks, i'm going to ring my doctor up and see if I can have it taken out.0 -
Im on the lowest estrogen pill to manage my PCOS. The first 3 months are tricky as your body adjusts. I had no period some months and 2 in others. Just be patient and give your body time to adjust. Make sure your nutrition stays on track and try not to avoid exercise during the times where you feel like that however difficult.
If it becomes an extreme cause of concern call your OB, she'll likely have you wait it out or try another pill.0 -

Gosh I hope it's not like this for 3 months... I'm definitely going to talk to her about it on Thursday when I go in, I have iron deficiency anemia so I can't afford to have 2 periods a month, one period is hard enough!
