How Much, How Long?

Hello! I'm trying to lose about 100 more pounds from where I am. My goals are set for 2 pounds a week, meaning it would take me almost exactly a year to get down to my goal. I'm pretty much willing to try anything here because I'm so unhappy with my body, so I was just wondering:
How much weight have you lost so far?
How long did it take you to lose all of that?

I lost 60lbs over about 9 months during my first year of karate, which involved 2 2-hour classes a week, burning something like 1500-2000 calories per class, plus workouts outside of class. I wasn't tracking my caloric intake at the time.0

Hello, I lost 42lbs last year on Weight Watchers, that took me about 4/5 months which I was really impressed with. However, since going to uni I've put 28lbs back on determined this time though! My aim is also 2lbs a week, and my goal is to lose about 55lbs and see how I look from there! Feels so far away.. but you just gotta stick at it, it's so worth it in the end!0

Congratulations!
I was thinking about joining a class of some sort so that I would be FORCED to work out. I'm thinking I will as soon as I get a car. Join a class, go to the gym any time I can. Right now, I can only go when my mom lets me use her car. I know I could walk, but when I go to the gym, I like to work out until I can barely make it down the stairs to get to the parking lot. lol0 -

Wow, you did really well. That's a loss of a little over 2 pounds a week, but awesome nonetheless. I'm sure you'll be able to get back there soon.
So... how exactly does Weight Watchers work? I know there are points instead of calories, but... I don't quite get it. It seems more like a healthier lifestyle kind of thing over just losing weight.0 -
I have lost 73lbs since september 2010 so just over 10 months. I did have a month of maintenance over decemeber though before joining mfp in January. My original goal was to lose 135lbs so I'm more than half way there
I would say to make sure you set yourself small goals along the way such as 10%, 20% losses etc and to not do to much to soon. For example I slowly lowered my cals and gradually improved my diet then added exercise. I increase my exercise intensity when I feel my workout is getting to easy. My fitness has improved so much I completed the c25k programme and can now run !! Which still amazes me lol

Congratulations on your loss!!
That's about 2 pounds a week then?
HOLY CRAP! C25K!? I'd love to complete that, but I think that will take a bit of time. I can't wait until I don't feel so out of shape. For the longest time, I was just trying to stay under 1400 calories... but I should have known better since I wasn't exercising at all. Now though, staying within the calories isn't too difficult for me as long as I'm eating all the right things.
Gahh, I just wish there was a faster way.0 -

Great job!!!0 -
Yep about 2lbs a week on average. I started on 2000 cal lol over the months I dropped to 1500cal and just this week have lowered to 1400cals I pretty much always eat my exercise cals back but that just my preference, just see what works for you. Work out what a 10% loss would be for you and aim for that ! You will get there before you know it !! All the best
Edit to add congrats on your loss so far !!!!

Lost 40 lbs since feb 14 2011 seven more to go till my goal after that new goal at ten lbs at a time. Good luck0

I calculated what a 10% loss would have been from my starting weight, and I've actually already reached it! Thanks for the advice. (: I feel so proud of myself. Haha.Lost 40 lbs since feb 14 2011 seven more to go till my goal after that new goal at ten lbs at a time. Good luck
WOW! Nice job! How'd you do it?0 -

Thanks Some weeks it was 4lbs and others it was stay the same, but I was so proud of myself! Well you just get a set amount of points based on your age, sex, weight, lifestyle etc and you stick to that amount of points. You can save some up each day if you're going out for a meal etc. I found that I was actually eating more on it! As you lose weights your points increase. If you exercise, you can get more points but they recommend not eating these, which I didn't. It did really help me control my eating and it worked. However, they have a new system in place now which I don't really understand! Plus, it's too expensive so I'm just sticking to eating a set amount of calories and exercising every day hopefully it will all come off again soon! thanks0 -
I've lost 25 lbs. since mid-January. It averages out to around 1 lb per week for me, which is about as fast as I could lose in a healthy way. Remember that as you lose and get closer to your goals, you may need to slow the weight loss a bit in order to stay healthy and keep the weight off. But good for you for setting those goals! You have a really good attitude and I'm sure you'll be successful. Good luck!0

I've lost 48lbs since the beginning of the year, so 6 1/2 months. Started watching what I ate and exercising regularly. Discovered MFP in late Feb and it makes it really easy to accurately measure what I'm taking in.
I'm not sure what my ending weight target is. I set it as the high end of my BMI healthy range, but I don't think I'll really know what my goal weight is until I reach it...0 -
Started 3/11/11 at 283#. As of 7/16/11 I am down to 230#, 53# that I don't need to carry with me. MFP has been super helpful for me.0

100 pounds in just under 10 months. Nothing fancy, just consistency. Being completely honest with myself by logging everything here, even on the bad days. Making sure I exercise most days (use a HRM to track calories burnt). It's not always easy but it can be done. Congrats on your success so far and good luck with the rest0

I've lost 32 pounds in 3 and 1/2 months. I'm sure you'll be able to lose weight faster (saw on your profile that you're 19 years old). You know the older you are, the tougher it is to lose the weight (I'm 35 years old). Once you have your eye on your goal, the only thing that can get in your way is you. I know you'll do great, and good luck!!! Time flies by so fast, that you'll start to wonder why you didn't start a year ago!0

10 pounds a month is really great! Congratulations on your loss. I think a HRM would really help me. Any recommendations? I just log what MFP has for the exercise, and try not to eat many of the exercise calories back because I'm pretty positive that some of the burned calories are inaccurate. Thank you very much!

About 1.5 pounds a week. Not bad at all! Congrats on your loss.I've lost 32 pounds in 3 and 1/2 months. I'm sure you'll be able to lose weight faster (saw on your profile that you're 19 years old). Great job! Congratulations. That's about 2.3 pounds a week, which is not bad at all. Thanks so much for your feed back! I completely agree with your last statement. I've got a similar quote in my signature. (:0 -

thanks I use the Polar FT4 and absolutely love it. Tried to save some money at first by getting a cheap Sportline from Target, it was useless. I found that MFP calorie burns weren't always accurate for me. I eat most of my exercise calories back but not all of them to account for inaccuracies.0 -
I don't weigh in until tomorrow but my last weigh in was about 2 weeks ago, at the 20 week mark and I lost 40 pounds at that point.0

I've lost 83lbs since Jan 12 of this year. It has been a real fun journey. I am far from done. Still have 69 to go to hit my big goal. The biggest thing I can say is don't be discouraged when the numbers start to slow down. The 2lbs a week will not always happen. You will more than likely plateau. You just have to trust and believe in your process. We all lose differently. Good luck.0

I've lost 63lbs since January 22, so almost 6 months. However - I know the last 63lbs I have to lose are not going to come off as quickly! I would love to lose another 63lbs in the next 8 months, however If it takes me another year and a half, I will take what I can get :happy:0
