Breast Feeding and Weight Loss

Looking for some tips on losing weight while breastfeeding. I have been nursing my LO for 5 months and have maintained the same weight since my 6 week check up. I know it's important to get enough calories and such while nursing but how do you maintain this and lose weight? I have about 50 pounds to lose.

Hello!
I am exclusively nursing my 11 week old son and I consume 1700-1800 calories per day and do light walking on my treadmill. I have lost 5 lbs so far in 11 weeks. If you are maintaining your weight you can try reducing your calories slightly (200 calories less per day) and see if that makes a difference. Just lower your calories gradually so you don't affect your supply. At 5 months though, you should have already established a good supply though so reducing your calories slightly shouldn't affect it that much.0 -

It wouldn't hurt to discuss it with your OB or other doctor. I exclusively breastfed my daughter for 6 months and continued through introducing solids until she self-weaned around 10-11 months. I used MFP to lose the baby weight and in a year had lost all the baby weight plus about 20 pounds (60ish total). I set my deficit on MFP and then added 500 for breastfeeding. With that being said, I didn't produce a whole lot, especially towards the end. My baby was always fed and content, so maybe that's just all she needed, but *I* felt like I wasn't producing enough and stressed about it. If you cut some calories and find your supply is dipping, add them back in. After discussing with your doctor, trial and error is probably about the best way to figure it out.1

In myfitnesspal, I set it to slightly active (as I think I am) and wanting to lose 0.5kg a week (about a pound). I then took what it gave me and added on 2000kj/about 500cal. I'm losing about 1.1kg/2lbs 6oz a week so I think I'm going to eat more. My baby is almost 6 months old, I'm currently aiming for 2000cal a day and I'm about 195lbs. I haven't had any drop in supply at all.0
