My husband, who is a work-out-aholic lol, always says you should take a rest day, no matter what. Ok so I'm not lifting weights yet, most of what I'm doing is mainly cardio, stationary bike, hiking, walking, etc. do I really need a rest day?

I don't think you need much rest from low impact cardio. If any. That's just...life. If one day you feel fatigued, take a rest day then.

I'd say it's up to you depending on how much you exercised that week. My husband has done P90X (wants you to stretch on the 7th day) and Insanity (has a day off on the 7th day, but Husband likes to stretch).

I agree that low impact cardio or stretching doesn't really need a rest day unless doing daily activity is new to you. I walk 7 days a week. I have done so for years. I only run 5 days a week at the moment, with one day for cross training and one day that is a rest day to let my muscles heal and to give myself a mental break.2

It depends on how much cardio you are doing. Professional cyclists have rest days built into their schedule. But for them a rest day involves an easy 15 mile ride rather than the effort they normally put in. Doing a little bit of exercise on a rest day is supposed to keep everything functioning normally.0
