Do you crave bagels and cream cheese? I think I found a solution.

I LOVE bagels and cream cheese. When I started my fitness journey, I looked up the nutrition information to see if they'd still fit in my routine. They round out at about 500 calories at somewhere like Dunkin' Donuts. Could I still fit that in? Sure, but on most days I'd rather steer clear and be able to have more filling, well rounded meals.

Yesterday I tried this instead:
Two slices of whole wheat toast, 80 calories
Two wedges of light spreadable Swiss cheese, 50 calories.

It hits the mark. For 130 calories, I feel like I satisfy that craving. I pair it with some fruit (usually grapes) and I'm satisfied and happy. If you want to see the brands I'm using, I have an open diary.

Check out Thomas whole wheat bagels! True, they are 240 calories per bagel but I eat 1/2 of one and I found it satisfies the bagel craving.

I'm gluten-free due to celiac. I just picked up some gluten-free bagels from Trader Joe's. I've always had a love for bagels and cream cheese! Your suggestion sounds amazing! I am definitely going to have to try that spreadable Swiss cheese on gluten-free bread in the near future. Yum!

Thomas's bagel thins only have 110 calories. Not quite the same, but will do in a pinch.

The best, and great for egg sandwiches.

I'm originally from the NYC area, and I'm a bit of a purist: Thomas's, Lenders, all those are CRAP compared to an honest New York (or maybe Montreal) style bagel.

But yeah, that 500 calorie thing is the price to pay. So if I really really want that bagel experience I do my Zumba.

An everything bagel with cream cheese and lox is heaven to me...but an everything bagel thin with light (not fat free...that tastes like paste) cream cheese is an acceptable substitute.

LOL, with all due respect, great bagels are not exclusive to NYC or Montreal. I grew up in a city that was referred to as "Little Israel", with some of the best delicatessens I have ever been to (and yes, I have been to NYC). The bagels were second to none. This was back in the 60's and in the middle of N America (Minnesota to be precise). I agree, the store bought ones are a poor substitute, but 99% of the time I will choose them to save the calories. The 1% of the time I get the real deal, I savor every delicious bite.

BTW there is a bagel chain store, Brueggers, that makes a great bagel the traditional way, fresh every day.

Good bagels have more to do with following the proper Jewish deli style than actual geography! And Bruegers makes a very respectable bagel...even though nowadays I tend to just get the coffee!

Agreed. The boiling of the dough before baking gives the bagel that texture that makes it so good. There is really no comparison to commercially prepared ones. Too bad they are so calorie dense.

Toasted bagel thins and whipped cream cheese do the trick for me.

Looking at this stuff, its like calling crackers bread slices. To think about it, why not just buy proper bagel and slice into 4 thin slices? Bet would be cheaper and even less calories lol

I ate them back when I was losing my pregnancy weight. They're wide enough for a breakfast sandwich and the everything bagel thins gave me that bagel satisfaction. I really like the outside part of the bagel the best anyway :)

I use them for egg sandwiches too mmm! But nothing beats a real yummy authentic, freshly baked bagel but the calories ugh!

Agreed. My town is mostly Jewish so we have a ton of Jewish delis with amazing bagels.

If I really want one I have an opened-face sandwich, with only half.
