I lost 5lbs my first week and I am stoked:bigsmile: I know it mainly water weight but It is still something. But I had some people tell me that losing 5lbs in one week is unhealthy for me. Do you think its unhealthy to lose 5lbs in one week? I don't starve myself, I eat every 3 hours and workout for 1 1/2hrs everyday. I also cut out all soft drinks and mainly just drink water all day. I feel great since I started eating healthier and working out. I hope to lose 3lbs this week:bigsmile:

I think its quite normal to lose a larger amount of weight in the beginning phases of dieting because, as you noted, a lot of it is water weight.
It sounds like you're taking care of yourself and doing a great job, so keep it up girl!0 -
In your first week that is not unhealthy or even unexpected. Just don't expect it EVERY week... a lot of people lose big the first 3-4 weeks and then hit a "snag" (its NOT a plateau!), so just be patient, eat right and keep logging and exercising. You'll be fine.
**EDIT - Good start eliminating liquids other than water - it may not be a permanent solution (though it is for some), but it helps "kickstart" weight loss.0 -
Losing weight is such a wierd social interation with your friends and family. Either they don't notice or say anything or they have everything to stay about how you are doing it. I have decided to do it for me and how I want to do it. I lost five pounds the first week too. I think you should just keep doing what you are doing, as long as you feel good and have energy. Way to go!0

Like the above said, it is normal, if this is your first week of a new exercise &/or nutrition program....just don't get discouraged next week0

No, not at all......I lost 10 lbs my first week but on average now I lose 1-3 lbs and I workout 5-7 days a week cardio, 3-5 days a week weight lifting and I eat 1500-2200 calories a day......haven't missed one week losing weight. :flowerforyou:0

I think the first few weeks of a change in eating and exercising can make the weight fall off quick. I wouldn't worry about such a large loss at first. Continually losing that much each week may be more worrysome, as it isn't healthy to loose that much that fast for a long period of time. Congrats on the great jump start!0

I agree with everyone else it's expected in your first week and good job on your weight loss.0

PS: Didn't mean to lessen your accomplishment any by saying it's "normal" - that is still a great loss and you should be proud! Just wanted you to know for the first week it isn't unhealthy.0
