Diet???!!!! What a word.....

I love it when I now see people and the conversation goes like this -
Wow you have lost some weight haven't you?
Yes - 3 stone this year so far - more to go but I am getting there
Wow - what diet have you been on?
Errr I haven't ( puzzled look from person your talking to) I have just learnt this thing called moderation, eating smaller portions, eating healthily and exercising - simple - no diets, nothing stupid or drastic
Wow - well done, you look great for it!
Isn't it strange how we all believe the only way to lose weight is to "go on a diet" - isn't it great to realise that just simply changing bad habits works? I am still amazed by what I have achieved by simply doing the above - no cheats, no drastic diets, no mad sessions in the gym just being a good girl! I still have treats, I still eat what I want ( within reason) I don't feel like I am missing out on anything and I know I can continue this for life. I also now know that I probably could have done this quicker by "going on a diet" but I really am happy the way things have gone and I feel for the 1st time in many years I am in control of what I eat and I don't ever imagine that food will win the battle again - this is my body and I have taken control!!
Dec 06 - at my worst
Nov 2009
Nov 2010 - around 235lbs
May 2011
June 2011 - on hols!!!

I hate that word, too..I always have to correct people. It's that dirty 4-letter word again.....ugh0

That is great and I feel the same way. I have had the same conversations. I try to tell them it is easy it isnt a diet, I am eating the same as they are just different portions. Usually they are loading up on the carbs and fatty stuff and i am taking small sample portions of that stuff and eating more lean meats and veggies. I feel bad for the ones that say well i want to start dieting but not right not life is too busy...Then i tell them i am not on a diet i just have been counting my calories which has allowed me to eat just *kitten* much food as i used to but i changed my portions of everything.0

I totally agree! People think you must be on some sort of drastic weird diet....like just eating cabbage soup or something. Lol. You look awesome, BTW!!! Very inspiring.0

Holy smokes you area a hottie! I love that dress in the end pic where did you find it?0

OMG I know! I posted on Facebook today: "as of today, I have lost 30 pounds!" and everyone keeps asking "what's your secret?". It's like, well, there really is no secret....just good ol' fashioned healthy eating and exercise! Our world has become so accustomed to diet pills, fad diets, and 'taking the easy ways out'. Once they hear that the weight was lost through just learning better habits, they just don't seem quite as excited, as if they just want to snap a finger and drop fifty pounds. ...it sure would be nice! But that just isnt reality. Hard work pays off....and it is SOOOOO WORTH IT!! Congrats on your weight loss, btw! You are doing great!0

YOU LOOK FABULOUS!0

You seriously have never asked this question?
Come on now.
Pity the poor people who have made the effort to notice your weight loss and inquire on how you did it.
I'm sure they're just making polite conversation.0 -
That's the point - I think we all have ! the word Diet is associated with weight loss and really the word diet is what we eat ?You seriously have never asked this question?
Come on now.0 -
Well you are obviously missing my point - I have no objection to discussing what I have done and how I have done it but isn't it quite sad how we all think in this day and age the only way to lose weight is by doing a 'diet' ? I would class myself as someone who probably believed that before I proved myself wrong this year! You seriously have never asked this question?
Come on now.

i get so tired of it too. i used to think it was cool when someone noticed i lost. now it's just annoying cause they wonder what "diet i'm on". i feel the same way!!!! healthy people! no secrets. just hard work!! by the way you look great!!0

I hate that word too. I know I have to make myself say "Lifestyle change" on a daily basis. We can't always make the world understand. But, then again...it's not about them. It is about getting ourselves healthy!
Please add me as a friend if you like! One can never have too many friends on the same journey!0 -
Thanks all for the compliments and thanks to those that that 'get' what I was trying to say. Felt the urge to post after talking to someone on Monday about my weight loss and where else better to share than here? There must be so many of us experiencing the same things while on this massive journey - it's great to know your not alone!
I also have been inspired and motivated since I have been here this year seeing 'normal' people achieve such wonderful losses and transformations - so thanks to anyone who has taken the time to add pictures - it really does help when starting out on changing your life this way. It made me think if they can do it so can I!!!
:blushing: sorry tmarie2715 - maybe I should have put at my largest? The main 'fat photos' that have made it past my 'avoid the camera era' have been from hubbies annual dinner dance , although I probably felt pretty glam at that time ( at the weight I was) Looking back now I realise how much bigger I was. It will be interesting when i go this year - they will probably think hubby has traded me in for a new model! Hoping by then I will have dropped the other 2 stone I have to lose!
Not sure katschi what your point was - had me confused there !0 -
what a fantastic story! Yes I hate the word diet too....We are making lifestyle changes and its going to last for life. Thanks for sharing you look amazing!!0
-
You look great! Also, I too am a lover of black and white attire0
