injured during exercising

I started exercising and wasn't too smart now looking back. I didn't stretch or cool down and started right out at 30 minutes on the treadmill with incline. Now both of my knees hurt in the back of them. It has been two weeks and I really want to get back to working out but they still feel really tight. Anyone else ever have this? My weight loss has slowed way down without exercising.

How are your knees walking? Stationary cycling? Rowing? Doing jumping jacks or skipping?

I would say that starting to aggressive is probably more to blame than the stretching part. It is pretty important to work yourself up slowly to avoid injury.

I had knee pain for over a year from excess running and excess weight. (I stopped running, the pain continued for over a year.) Strength training helped my knee pain go away. Ever since I started doing deep squats I've strengthened the muscles in my legs which stabilized my knee. Using a foam roller on my IT band helps a lot too. Also, shoes with good arch support. Hopefully your knee pain isn't that serious but just some ideas for you.

Try walking on the flat for 30 minutes. I walk every day before I run and that helps to loosen up any tightness from the previous day's activity.

A few years ago, I had a hamstring strain that lasted for over a year. it came from trying to run fast so I could run with a group that was much faster than I was. That was a big mistake. I could walk without pain or run slowly but trying to run fast or up steep hills hurt. It took time to completely heal. Be careful about not overstretching your tight muscles. Don't bounce, just do a slow gentle stretch and hold it.
  • Thank you all for your suggestions. I finally went to the Dr. because the pain went to my ankles as well. She put me on a steroid pack and ibuprofen. She thinks it was inflammation in my joints. I can't wait to get back to exercising. My weight loss has came to a standstill without it.
