I just recently got back into weight training and my plan was to work the same muscle groups on alternate days twice a week. Does anyone know if one days rest is enough? And is it ok to work muscles that are still sore? Any input would be appreciated.

I don't know if it's good for you but that's what I do. They tend to feel better after working them out again. I think they will get less sore after a few workouts so I just try to power through it. Or if I'm really sore, I'll give them an extra day and do cardio instead.0

I'm pretty sure that you are fine working the same group as long as you have 1 day rest in between. I usually lift tues, thur and sat. I think a little soreness is fine to keep working out (sometimes it helps them not be as sore). If it gets to the point of pain when lifting, give yourself another day to rest. Drinking water also helps sore muscles feel better.0

Thanks! That is pretty much what I was thinking also but I just wanted some other opinions.0

I feel your pain! I have been overreaching lately and it hit me like a ton of bricks today. Whether I lift a sore muscle or not really depends on how sore it is. If I can only feel it in a really deep stretch or strong contraction, but otherwise feel okay, I still lift. But if it feels like a big bruise, meaning it's tender to the touch and hurts with any movement, I don't lift. I will do cardio or just take a rest day.0

I workout upper body Mondays and Fridays, Cardio T, Th, Sa and Legs on Wednesday. Any soreness is usually gone by them time you workout that body part. This allows for plenty of rest for each muscle group.0

Well I just did cardio last night and I am feeling quite a bit better today so I think that taking one more rest day helped. I will be able to lift tonight. Thanks everyone!0
