Do I really NEED carbs after a workout....

Hey all

So when I say after a workout, here's my routine:

Monday - 30mins weight training with PT
Tues - Yoga
Weds - 30mins weight training with PT
Thurs - 30mins KB class
Friday - 45min bodypump class

So as you can see I don't train for very long as I only workout on my lunch hour. However, a few weeks ago someone told me to eat more carbs such as white rice/pasta after my workout which is of course my lunch but I feel so groggy in the afternoons.

I don't eat a lot of it, I batch make meals such as chilli for three days at a time and one bag of rice 125g I split into day days but I just feel groggy, at first I enjoyed it as I felt it was keeping me fuller for longer but as I also tend to eat some sort of carbs for tea too do you think I'm eating to much for tom many days in a row i.e. chilli, rice, broccoli and cauliflur (all weighed and counted for) has been my lunch for yesterday, today and tomorrow.

My workouts are similar to yours. My trainer says to eat carb & protein both before and after. Works for me. Post is usually an apple & a protein bar.

For what you're doing, it's not particularly important. If you want to eat more carbs, eat more carbs...if you don't, then don't.

Pretty much there. OP, you aren't working out for a very long time, so the need to get carbs or carbs and protein isn't overly necessary. The bigger concerns are total protein and calories throughout the whole day.

No, you don't need them. Especially if its making you feel worse.

Ah thanks all, my MAIN is to lose weight so am currently trying to get my eating on point but these carbs at lunch are making me feel way groggy and tired, today I felt tired and lethargic, as you can see from my routine I dont work out very long, however, I do work very hard in my sessions.

I was also told to eat approx 169g of protein but I found this to much so I try and aim for 100g (after some research), I'm 5foot 3inches and weigh 168lbs so aim for 1500 a day although PT said if I stop losing weight then to reduce slightly
