Question on tracking macros

Hi everyone
I've been tracking macros for the past year or so and while still not perfect, I've gotten really good about staying within them daily
With that said, I often wonder how other people who do the same handle certain situations like the one I was in this past week.
Went to a company dinner with my boss and others. While at dinner I met all my macros for the day and topped out my calories.
After dinner my boss and I were walking to the car and our VP came up to us and asked if we wanted to walk next door and grab a drink. I said yes and stressed the whole time and sipped my drink because I was nervous about going over my calories for the day. I hadn't done that since I've started tracking.
I didn't want to decline or say I didn't drink because I had been drinking at dinner
How do you guys who track handle things like this? Thanks so much

I would have one drink and a glass of water and slowly nurse them over the course of the conversation. For the calories in one drink, you can spread that out over a couple of days, chalk it up to going slightly over and not worry, or exercise a little more the next day.0

Focus on the big picture: one drink won't derail the progress you've made. If you do this multiple times per week and it's consistently making you go over on your calories, then it's probably time to pause and reassess your approach. But one night? Just log it, move on, and try to make up for it later in the week with an extra long workout session or by making sure you're under on a different day.
Also, perhaps it'll be more helpful for you to pay attention to your weekly calorie intake vs your daily intake.1 -
That's good feedback. I do log and look at the weekly average on general and it's worked well.1
