ELI5 - Excess Protein

So while on a deficit, you generally want to increase protein intake to reduce muscle loss during weight loss. Lets say my daily goal on MFP is 90g of protein/day. Here are a few questions I have that maybe others have too:
Is this an adequate amount of protein to prevent muscle loss?
Can you have too much protein?
What happens to the excess protein?

what is your current height/weight?
excess protein is processed by your kidneys and excreted from your body. I take 125g a day (female, 5'3", 151lbs)0 -

I am 5'11" 260lb. I left that out in my main post hoping that there might be some more general answers that apply to more people than just me.

the rule of thumb is .8-1g of protein per lb
so for you - you may want to look at upping your protein significantly (mathematically - .8*260 = 208g)0
