So I have only been back on the weight loss train for about 2 weeks now. I tweaked my back pretty bad early last week, no idea how but I'm dying. Should I eat closer to or at maintenance for a few days to see if it will help me bounce back faster? I know food is fuel and something is telling me I'm not getting enough to help heal my back. I don't want to put my weight loss on hold either tho. Some one who is more knowledgeable than I am tell me what to do please!

It wouldn't hurt to eat at maintenance...but if your back is in pain then it may affect your activity level which affects your maintenance.

I would try to eat at your current calorie level and then bump it up to maintenance if you feel hungrier. It will slow your weight loss but it's not a race. Better for you to heal up.

I don't know about calories but when I fractured my scapula I was told to eat more protein. No idea if it helped or not!

You should eat at Maintenence I agree now but less when hurt I have had to stop all upper body workouts for the past 6 weeks and it will be another 6 weeks till I can lift again. I'm losing muscle at 2500 calories per pound and the lack of activity its killing me.. Tons of bike riding and walking just so I can eat at maintenance and still feel like I'm getting fat..

Yeah I have been trying to up my protein. I figured if it repairs muscles after a work out it would probably help a sore one heal faster. Chugging water like a mad woman too. My activity level is down to nothing :( my house isn't even getting clean and I feel terrible about it. The pain is so bad I went to the er last night. I'm over this crap. I did figure out what I did to it tho which some how makes me feel better lol. I fell with my 25 lb 11 month old in my arms the day before it started hurting. Im assuming the way I caught myself to protect him is what did me in.

    Back issues suck.

Was it a muscle strain or did you tweak it?

My dad used to get terrible muscle spasms when he'd tweak his back. Nothing helped but rest.

I can't give any good advice, but I feel your pain. Take it easy coming back and good luck getting well.

OP: Have you considered seeing a chiropractor?

If your activity level is down to zip currently, you might find that your usual calorie deficit *will* be your maintenance level (or close to it) right now. :)

    IMO see a real doctor.

Seeing a doctor and a chiropractor and they are both working together.

    Good for you. <3

My doctor and my chiropractor each work with me on different issues according to their specialties. Hand-in-hand they are my dream team. :)
