Class, Sass, and Bad *kitten*-- Week 3

This thread is only open for a few more weeks. After August 1, we will mark this group as "closed". We only want serious players who will be communicate regularly and after support and motivation. That's why we're all here, right? We've had a few passerbys, but we want to keep this group close knit.
The original thread was getting too long, so we decided to create a new board each week. It will originally be every Friday, so on the 22nd, I will link next week's board and help redirect everyone. Some people may not know that after you reply to a board, you can easily find it again under "my topics".

We will still weigh in weekly on Fridays with this format
Start weight: ###
July goal wt: ###
July 1: ### (+/- #)
July 8: ### (+/- #)
July 15:### (+/- #)
July 22: TBA (+/- previous week)
July 29: TBA (+/- previous week)
of course remove the ### and replace them with your actual numbers. It should be easier to find now that we're doing a new board each week. But if you want to add it to your signature, that's fine too!0 -
Challenges for July 15- July 21
Exercise challenges:
1. Increase time: Workout 10% more this week (or increase your intensity by 10%)
2. Squats: We can do it as a group, but individually we'll shoot for 40 a day (2 sets of 20, 4 sets of 10)
3. Have fun: Do a fun cardio driven activity on one of your rest days.
Food challenges:
1. Have discipline: no late night snacking (close the kitchen at a specific time each night)
2. Think outside the box: try a new fruit or vegetable (an idea from last week)0 -
Thanks for starting a new one, Leela! It should be much easier to keep up now.
I've been keeping up with the challenges... More intense workouts - check! At least 40 squats a day (modified for more intensity) - check! Friday was my rest day and I spent most of it in the garden and doing yard work, loved it - check! No late night snacking - check! New fruit/vegetable - still working on it.0 -
Garrett ... Congrats on the running and the pants size. Keep it up, girl! You're killing it!0

1. increased my intensity today
3. just bought my mom a wii (she wanted it haha) which should arrive tomorrow. Just Dance 2 and Zumba for wii acquired. sounds fun to me!0 -
1. workout minutes: 105/240
2. squats: 100/ 300
3. have fun: went to zumbatomics Saturday with my daughter.
1. I have been closing the kitchen around roughly 9 pm.
2. still thinking of this one. my fruit market has lychees on sale. I have no idea what they are. but I am thinking of getting them and trying them0 -
Letting myself have a "rest" day of sorts because I'm at home visiting my family. I still plan on doing a little cardio, probably jumping jacks and jump rope, and then doing some abs and arms. Movie theatre popcor and coke has me feeling back about myself, haha. But after yesterday's run, my legs want the day off. I'll be out running again in the morning!
I've been doing awfully with keeping up with the challenges so far (and its only sunday!), but:
1. I would consider a 2.3 mile run upping the intensity! I'm planning on trying to go 3 miles tomorrow.
2. I haven't done any squats yet, bah. I guess I'll just have to double time it to catch up! That means I owe, 80 squats.
1. My kitchen closes at 8! Always has.0 -
Hi! How are you doing today? What's your plan for the week? How are you doing with challenges? Have you found a new fruit/veggie to try yet?0

I hope to have a better day today than yesterday. My plan for the week is to just take it one day at a time. Looking at the whole picture gets to me overwhelming for me these days. Challenges are coming along. I ddi 50 more squats yesterday bringing the total count to 150. Still working on the fruit. have you ever had lychees? I plan on buying them today or tomorrow at the latest. going to try to find a recipe for it too.
Hope everyone is having a great day. I hope to see more posts since its the start of a new week! Garrett, looks like you're the only one who checked in yesterday. Thanks. sorry there was no one else here to talk to you. I'll pop on throughout the day today and all week!0 -

I have Zumba for the Wii. It takes a while to get used to, but it is really fun. I always try to score more points from working harder. I have yet to win the first level!
It was a tough weekend, with 2 BBQs to go to, but I tried to stick with a lot of fruit and diluted my drinks with seltzer water.
I feel as i may fall behind on my goals this week, as I woke up with a cold this morning (Stuffy nose, sore throat, & achy), so I don't want to exercise so that I get better sooner.0 -

Lychees are delicious! They kind of remind me of papayas. They make a great smoothie if you blend if with some ice and some greek yogurt.
I haven't found a new fruit yet, but I'm going to figure out something to do with the bananas in my house. SInce I'm sick the only thing I may be up for is finding recipes today.0 -
I had such a busy day yesterday that I didn't have time to check in. My school semester starts on August 22 and one of my professors sent 2(!!!) epic length mails with several hundred pages of reading, a couple sight-singing assignments and 2 lengthy counterpoint assignments ..... all due on the FIRST day of class. Really?!? It's going to be one of those semesters, I fear. I'm also taking a Russian history class. A week or so she had listed 11 books but after checking yesterday, it's up to 15. I've already started reading those .... 3 down, 12 to go. And I have to brush up on my Russian language skills before the semester begins. I think 15 grad credit hours might wear me down but, at this point, I'm ready to just buckle down and get it over. I am SO sick of school, all the politics that goes with it, and all the extra requirements that my grad adviser has set out just for me. ::vent over::: Garrett (and other students), what classes are you taking this semester?
Lychees ... yes, had them before. And I agree with Ally - papaya-like and great in smoothies.
Ally, I hope you feel better soon. Summer colds are the absolute worst, in my opinion.
I weighed today ... couldn't help it since I had such a bloated, discouraging week last week. Good news is I'm down just a little but I won't record it until the official weigh-in day. Yay for no bloating! xD0 -

Summer colds are the worst. I think they're aggravated by the air conditioning too.
I hear you on the stress of classes. I just finished taking my art history final today. It took me 4 HOURS! I almost feel like I can take a breather for a month (which figures that I get sick on the day my summer class ends) I'm taking 3 classes in the fall (mural painting, sculpture, and art history II) and that is on top of working full time! I'm also a teacher, so I know school politics can be tough.
Thanks Leela for the banana pancake recipe! I'm going to try that today!0 -

Yes! It boggles my mind that the same places that crank the heat up to 78 degrees in the winter, keep it at 62 degrees in the summer!
What do you teach? Are you working towards an art degree? I assume that you are a grad student, too? I'm working on a master's in music theory/composition, specializing in Russian music theory/history. This semester I'm taking Applied Composition and Applied Piano (basically private lessons in both), Men and Women in Imperial Russia, 18th century Counterpoint, Advanced Post Tonal Analysis, and Russian language. I'll finish the degree in either in May or Dec 2012 ... haven't decided how much I want to stress myself out yet. Haha. After that, the plan is to move on to a doctorate in history with a modern Eur/Rus focus. I'm really tired of the whole school thing right now so unless they offer some good $$$, I'll think really hard about jumping back in. Good news/bad news - they did with my master's degree and that's why I keep hanging in there. I've almost thrown in the towel twice now... not because I can't do the work but because of the extra pressure and requirements (unfairly) put upon me and a couple of insufferable, arrogant jerks that call themselves professors.0 -
I teach Video, Photography, and Graphic Design in a public high school. I used to be an adjunct prfessor at a community college too, but had to give that up because I was getting too stressed. My degree is in Technology Education, and I have a masters in educational technology, and one in technology education. I'm also certified as a school library media specialist. Currently I'm working on my art education certification. Luckily it doesn't require another grad degree, but I am taking classes at 3 different colleges just to finish up all the classes I need. I totally feel you about dealing with school's. One of the community colleges wouldn't let me take a class I needed because they wouldn't accept one of the grad classes I took at a different college for a prerequisite. I'm excited to finish up all my work. i love what I teach now, but want to focus more on the art part of it than the technology. Good luck if you try for a doctorate. I've always wanted to get one, but the paying for it part has always turned me away!
I think that's why my weight always fluctuates so much is due to stress. Does anyone else find that to be the case? I even feel stressed today because I'm sick and can't exercise!0 -

Good for you on our major! I have no idea what one would study in Russian music theory!0 -

Thanks for the encouragement earlier! (:
I'm a PoliSci major, concentration pre-law, and a Spanish minor. This semester is going to KICK my tail. Hard. Especially since my goal is to get on the dean's list. Right now I'm still trying to get a lot of my gen-eds out of the way (liberal arts school, joy), so I'm taking a gen-ed Bio + lab, a 200 level gen-ed English, a contemporary world issues class, an ancient political philosophy class, a 300 level spanish class and a weight training class as my pe credit (!!!). I have a feeling this semester will be HARD, but I'm looking forward to it. Classes start on the 22nd for me too.
Today was good. Spent all day on my feet walking around the Atlanta aquarium. Had a small victory when I went to eat at the Varsity (if you've never heard of it - it is basically the big daddy of all fast food restaurants) when I managed to eat a meal that only came out to about 300 cals. I came home and went for a run - about 2 miles all total, plus about a 1.5 miles of walking. I had baked chicken and veggies for dinner and it was delicious.
I actually had another NSV today - I hopped on the scale at my parents house, just to compare, because I don't think my own scale is the most accurate thing ever - and it showed me weighing 137. Ugh. If that's true, that means I've been stuck at 137 forever. BUT I looked in the mirror, and just realized that it doesn't MATTER. I look good, better than I have in a while, and I'm sure that if I keep up with my healthy eating and exercise, I'll continue to look better and better.
I'm at 120 squats, btw.0 -
Congrats Garret on your NSV!0

I'm staying under my calorie goals by 200 cal a day. I've added c25k for exercise and today's run was so much easier ( No back pain at all) Have faith in me if u don't see me post often on our board. I use my phone mainly for my Internet.0

For the 2nd day in a row I REALLY wanted ice cream, and I passed it up. Whenthe temperature spikes to 100 later this week I think it will be harder to do.0
-
Good job on those squats, Leela!0

Timed myself yesterday, and over the past week or so I've taken 30 seconds off my mile! I'm still slow as molasses in the wintertime, but hey, progress is progress. Also, the scale showed 134 this morning ... but I'm not gonna count it as "official" until Friday so...0
