My husband and I have gone through a roller coaster of a few years with trying to start a family. We have lost 4 so far. After my last miscarriage my body just went crazy. I gained 60 pounds and they discovered that I have PCOS as well as insulin resistance. It took MANY tests with the infertility specialist to finally possibly get some things straightened out - he said right now the biggest thing would be to lose weight to not only up the chances of getting pregnant but also have a healthy pregnancy.

What I was hoping to find is someone who has successfully gotten pregnant after losing weight/with PCOS. Or just advice/support.

Hi - my name is Jen. I too have PCOS. I'm sorry i cant be of any help for advice, i too am facing the same position. After being diagnosed i haven't tried to go to the dr's yet (partially from fear). I plan on losing some weight before i go to fertility dr's. I just wanted to say hi and good luck with ttc :)

Sorry to hear of your losses, I have lost two myself - although the causes are unknown. I don't have PCOS, but I did have a successful pregnancy after my losses. We actually have two boys one was born in 2005, perfectly normal healthy pregnancy, then our miscarriage, then our still birth, then we finally had our youngest son in 2009 -another relatively normal healthy pregnancy except for the fact that he was born very large 11lb 1 oz and I didn't have gestational diabetes. I don't have much advice for you, but I wish you the best and hope that you can have the family you wish for!! Please feel free to add me as a friend for support and motivation, I definitely know what you are going through!! ((Hugs))

I was SO in denial and afraid to go to the doctor. It took me one year of steady gaining weight, having pains and being unhealthy and not getting pregnant to finally make an appointment. But I would definitely make an appointment - no matter what you weigh - and see a doctor. It was the best thing I could have done so far!! Best of luck to you as well - and definitely feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like! :)

Ask your doctor about taking Metformin. Studies have shown that women who take it are less likely to miscarry. Read this article:

Thank you so much for your story. I understand still birth, that one was the hardest for me. It was my first loss and the one that has been furthest along so far. My doctor thinks that once I have a full term pregnancy it will help straighten my body back out! I'll definitely be sending you a friend request and I'm so glad you were finally blessed with two little angels!

Great article! He actually JUST put me on that medicine and I am really hoping it works! He has also put me on progesterone just to help me ovulate more normally but he is worried about gestational diabetes and other health issues if I get pregnant at this weight - but thank you so much for the link!

I have PCOS got pregnant with metformin, femara, baby aspirin and progesterone. I was 300lbs when I got pregnant. It can happen. Don't let anyone tell you it can't.

    Good Luck.

I have PCOS too and lost 2 babies real early in the pregnancy before I started to show or anything. I do have a nice healthy kid now tho and I was quite heavy when I got pregnant so it is possible! It may take you a bit longer than some but keep the faith and dont stress it. Stress is a factor in not being able to conceive.

There are a lot of us with PCOS on this site. Feel free to add me if you like. My son was a complete surprise, but since I was so overweight, the labor and postlabor was terrible. We're currently TTC again, but it's not really working (yet). I'm on Metformin, and I was able to get my period without birth control for the first time in about 11 years just last month. So losing weight does help, but certainly good luck with your journey!

Oh and it was on my first medicated cycle! Not my first cycle with metformin but my first cycle with a fertility medication. Metformin, diet and exercise works for a lot of people!

Drs told us that we wouldn't likely be able to conceive on our own at all. We TTC'd for 3 years, and had lots of unprotected bedroom times before that with no result. I went on clomid and that ended up a nightmare, as I also have severe endometriosis and my ovary hypogrew into a huge cyst and I had to have surgery.

I finally got down to my goal weight in Sept of 2004, and got pregnant. I did even know I was pregnant for a few weeks. I also didn't lose the weight to conceive, I had just reached a place where I was done TTC and working on myself. My son was born happy and healthy and he is 6. He was born with High functioning Autsim and a disease called eosinophilic esophagitis. I don't know if it is related to me having a hard time getting pregnant, thus maybe I shouldn't have had kids.

Three years later, we decided we wanted another baby. I had lost nearly all of my pregnancy weight (90 lbs worth) and we got pregnant immediatley on the first try with my daughter.

I do think weight plays a very big role in how our hormones work in our body. When I lost all my weight, I was no longer metformin dependent, I was getting periods on my own, no hair, etc.

GL it will happen for you!
