If you eat 1200 calories a day to loose weight does your metabolism burn less calories over time? If you reach your goal weight and want to maintain will it be harder because of eating low calories for so long?

Anytime you lose weight your calorie needs reduce. If you lose too quickly then you tend to lose more muscle, so they drop even more. But exercise increases your calorie needs and also helps to build muscle. But it isn't having low calorie needs that makes it hard to maintain your weight. You gain weight because you eat more than you need. There's nothing forcing you to take a second helping. There's nothing forcing you to eat everything they bring you at a restaurant. But people want to blame their weight gain on a slow metabolism rather than the choices they make.

Yes, at the beginning you were doing all your activity carrying around an extra 50-100 lbs, it takes energy to move that mass. Or, is it easier to go hiking with an empty pack or carrying 75 lbs up and down the hills. For the same activity level, you will gradually burn less calories as the weight comes off.

    Didn't understand your final question
