Hello mfp community,

I just started seriously using this site 5 days ago even tho I signed up for it a month maybe a little more ago. I started watching what I eat because I am determined to look better in my wedding dress then I do now. And I don't want to look 7 months pregnant when I sit down. No I'm not pregnant at all and I haven't been. Also I wont to look in a mirror one day without crying. My husband tries his best to make me believe I am beautiful and I refuse to believe him. I have some major self esteem issues to work out as well.

Well I was watching my food and have already lost 7 lbs in 3 weeks and thought that was great. Added in Exercises starting a few days ago and now I'm stuck at the same weight for the last 4 days. Not really sure why. I'm under my calories I exercise at least 30 minutes to an hour a day. But hopefully something will show soon.

I need support to keep me motivated and friends to talk to in the rough patches. Also would love to meet some friends from central FL because I will be moving there in 19 days. And not only would hanging out be fun but working out together would help keep me motivated as well. But I am not picky I am willing to be friends with anyone that request me and from all over the globe.

I have the same thing. I don't believe my boyfriend when he says I'm beautiful. What I found out over time was he was getting sick of having to argue with me about me being beautiful and if he didn't think I was beautiful he wouldn't be attracted to me. :) So now I tend not to argue with him on that and believe that he does find me attractive.

I also tend to weigh myself every day and just read a web page on the 12 ways to sabotage yourself while losing weight, and one of them was weighing yourself every day. I know my body tends to cycle up and down depending on what time of the month it is and how much water I have in me or not. I've been told to go more by how my clothes feel and to only weigh myself once a week.

It's slow going for me, but I'm doing my best to keep my focus on being healthier and the weight will follow. :-)

Firstly, welcome and congratulations on the weight loss so far!

A couple of suggestions which could account for a plateau:

Are you eating enough calories? If you eat too far under your goal you can plateau and your progress will stall.

Are you eating your exercise calories back? Your NET calories after exercise has been accounted for should be somewhere around your goal.

Are you drinking enough water? If you dehydrate your body can retain a good 5 pounds of water easily. I go for about 5 litres daily but you should be getting at least two and more if you're exercising a lot.

Sounds counter-intuitive right? Eat more calories to lose more fat, drink more water to get rid of body water... Works though...

    Good luck!
  • Hey thanks, yeah I weigh myself when I get up and when I go to bed. Probably not the best way to go about that. I think my neighbor told me I was going to get obsessed with it.

Eating around my target calories is hard. Everything is way high in calories so I try to avoid it. I do eat some of my exercise calories back but I try to make sure I don't eat many. This whole balance thing is going to have to take some getting use to :-/ I drink anywhere from 3-9 glasses of water a day so anywhere from 24 oz to 72oz and the rest the time I am drinking diet green tea.

Take a look at my food diary. I struggle to eat all my daily calories and I don't feel deprived of anything. I even had some lovely cherry pie last night (only a small slice though) as I had the calories and macro nutrients to spare. Through low cal alternatives and portion size management, there's always a way! :)

As an example, last night I had taco's. Beef taco's are way high in calories and fat so I made quorn tacos - quorn's not just for the veggies, it's also a great source of lean protein.

Stick with it and look at the foods in your diary daily thinking if there's anything you can tweak. I'm having breaded fish for my dinner today but I'm pushing at my carb limit so next week I'm thinking of switching it out to baked or steamed skinless cod fillet instead. All the protein, a fraction of the carbs!

It's all about tweaking. The perfect eating plan for you won't come overnight but as a result of hard work and plenty of thought and planning.

Stick with it and don't panic over small fluctuations. The most difficult part of the whole process is simply making the choice to change your lifestyle for the better - and you've already done that!
  • Thanks. I happen to be one of those Veggies you talk about. Well sorta. The only meat I will eat is chicken because I haven't found a good sub for the protein I need. So I already limit my food choices. Not by much tho. You'd be amazed what you can make even without meat. Yeah I am for sure going to have to watch and study the variations of meal choice on the day. I really hope I can make my goal by my wedding day tho. I was going for 30 lbs (2.4lbs a week) but I will just be happy if I don't look fat when I sit down in my dress lol.
