Why is it so hard in today's world to make a friend. Maybe I'm not doing it right? It seems if you don't look a certain way or act a certain way you are an outcast. People are so judgemental in today's world. Not everyone, but a lot. I find myself judging, but I do try my hardest to put myself in their situation or try to think of why someone might do something or act a certain way.. No one is perfect. But why is it that when you walk up to someone and try talking just to make conversation they freak out as if you are a creep. Yes, its hard to trust people anymore, but jeeze.. Everyone is so stuck in social media, including me. Give the outside world a chance.. I have such a double sided opinion about social media! Its one of those things that I hate, but love having. Just wish people were still into getting to know one another in person, rather than commenting on a post every now and then and avoiding in public. Just ranting..

    Hi !

    Hello OP.. Welcome to MFP...

Are you looking for 'unfun & appropriate friends' or 'fun and inappropriate friends'?

They can be appropriate and fun at the same time.. Right? Lol And outside of social media. I'm saying no one knows how to communicate I guess.. Outside of social media..

You want real life friends? Join clubs or groups with similar interests. that's where my friends have all come from. or the grocery store....drugstore...toy store.

    I respectfully disagree.

I communicate just fine outside of social media.

Just yesterday, I flipped off some guy in traffic. The communication was clear.

You just kinda got to put yourself out there.. Not everyone is going to like you, or even want to be your friend

But sometimes idle chit chat with a stranger may lead to something or not.. as stated above, look into joining a group, volunteer in your community, if you have a hobby or something you love to do, look for others that have this same interest. If you exercise, look for an exercise buddy that lives near you, etc

People can be hard to get along with.. So that's true.. The more you know about them can definitely change how you see them..

It sounds like you want more than superficial chit chat and there is no problem with that. Everyone is entitled to spend their time as they wish. Some people don't want deep meaningful conversations and have a lighter energy, and there is nothing wrong with that either. I actually agree with missbgiff. People are selfish and that's okay. Time is short and they can spend it however they wish, unfortunately it might not be the way you would choose.

Whatever your passionate about, find like minded souls and that might lead to something deeper, going out together for coffee or whatever. You can only control you, no one else. So if you want to get to know someone approach them, the worst they can say is no and you move on to the next.

Dang, I typed all of this and now you edited the blurb to nevermind. I'm still posting it because now it's my rant.

Wow.. Exactly what I'm talking about. Half of you instantly go to criticism and insults.. Such a shame of the world today.. Seems to me as if you're too simple minded to understand the point of the conversation.. Anyway, carry on with your ignorant comments. I'm sure you will anyway.

With all due respect, I scanned this short thread and really didn't see much in the way of insults.

Interesting. I can't say as if I agree with you there as I talk to people outside of social media. I wouldn't necessary say everyone I talk to is my friend though. I do have lots of people I know through the kids activities who I will talk with upon occasion, usually small talk to pass the time or see whats new. Doesn't mean we have to be friends necessarily. The social media gives one a much larger audience with whom to speak.

Nope, not everyone has to be your friend.. Could also be the differences of the communities we live in.. Just the more people I meet out automatically seem to be hateful at something as simple as saying hi..

What kind of community do you live in where hi is met with disdain?

Who criticized or insulted? Maybe the problem isn't the world...

    Hm. Maybe so.
