Granted this guy started out with tons of muscle, AND it's no where near the same as dealing with decades of bad habits and life style that includes a desk job. BUT Drew Manning Gained and Lost 75lbs on purpose to better understand WHY people struggle with weight loss. DH and I watch us and it actually motivated us to be more healthy. Why? This video validated for us that our frustrations are normal. Granted it was likely easier for him to lose 75lbs than the average person with a normal western diet and lifestyle. BUT He experienced the same struggles (just smaller doses) as we all do. My Take Away: Don't give up. It's all part of the process. Forward progress is all that matters. Other things matter too.

How is your blood chemistry since taking on a new/healthier life style?
How are your inches?
How are your clothes fitting?
How do you feel? More energized?
Are you getting enough or better sleep?

Often times the above results may not show up on the scale. BUT are also much more important

Weight loss is a struggle but people often make it harder on themselves.

The other day i was telling a friend of a friend that when it came to my MFP friends, i often treat them as if i was training a new employee, I mean i have been on MFP two years and i lost 117 pounds and i have been through a lot of ups and downs and then more ups, i had to be medicated for binge eating disorder in the end to be able to maintain my loss but when i am training a new employee at my job, its very over whelming, there is a lot to take in and a lot to get to know and understand. So my encouragement is always to make sure they at least stick to the basics, Log everyday, Log every meal, Every bite and be honest and as accurate as possible, Excersize and when problems arise, we will deal with them as they come, but first, lets get used to the basic routine. The more comfortable we get with eating to a calorie goal and the more we get to know ourselves, the easier it is to add in our own little ways of doing things.

People make things harder on themselves because there is a lot of media out there filling their heads with garbage so they like a lot of people decide on a thursday lets say to lose weight but say "Im gonna start my new diet on monday" ... They eat everything they can over the next 4 days because to them this is their last moment of freedom.
So Monday comes and theyve basically decided to cut bread or diary or certain meats, take out foods, chips, candy, chocolate, fried foods, ice cream... the list goes on because they believe its specific foods making them over weight, time drags on.. because some people have over 100 pounds to lose... and they are miserable, who wants to spend months and months craving the foods they used to really enjoy and doing everything they can to avoid them. They see their friends, co workers, spouse's eating the foods they gave up to lose weight and in their minds blame them for trying to sabotage their efforts. So they get a bit angry and bitter on the inside.. and eventually the desire of wanting these foods over powers their efforts to stay away and they eat it.. but they binge on it because thats what happens most of the time when you eliminate things.

So they finish eating and they feel awful, ashamed and dirty.
they get so upset that they give up, blame all outside sources rather then themselves, feel defeated because they think that they are obviously just meant to be over weight and then once they crawl out of that hole, they spend months in denial... "oh i like to eat, dieting is just too hard" -- they either stay the same weight or gain more and come back again to try and lose weight.

It is hard... it is. No ones journey is easy.. it does take strength and determination, but you have a better solid chance if you only gave yourself a better chance at it.
Start yourself off like a blank slate and let go of all this jibber jabber on different diets or avoiding foods or one co worker told you this and another co worker told you that and you wont lose weight unless you give up this or excersize x amount of days a week or whatever. I remember reading some poor girls post here, she was over 300 pounds and was just absolutely lost and some one else came and posted this incredibly long list of do's and don't which included avoiding almost everything out there and preaching about clean eating.

Clean eating is a personal choice, just like anything else out there, people will find what works for them on their own, but if you want to set people up for success and help them get started because the road is going to be hard enough as it is... they really just need to learn the basics.. they need support on how to just get started counting calories and daily logging and getting to know a new active lifestyle.. Gotta leave a lot of the personal choices out of it because its no better then the media.

Anyway thats just my two cents lol...

Bumping this post just so people read your excellent comment.
