Treadmill issues

When I started hitting the treadmill back in August, I was walking at 2.4 mph and my heartrate was at 150. As my heart rate gets lower, I bump up the speed. Currently, I'm at 3.5. At 3.5 mph, I have no issues with being out of breath, however when I get off the treadmill, my ankle is swollen and hurts for a couple of days. I have flat feet, but am using good shoes/socks. I hate to go to a slower speed since I won't get the same cardio benefit. Suggestions?

You are not going to be able to continue walking if you injure yourself. That is much worse for you than simply slowing down.0

Have you considered going to a podiatrist or a physical therapist to have them analyze your walking gait?2

Adjust the incline?0

My first thought would be circulation. Have you been to your GP to talk about your circulation?
The reason I say that is because I've had DVT and ended up with a bit of permanent damage. Now my left ankle swells a bit from time to time.

My left ankle which I have rolled/sprained several times blows up after exercise but it doesn't hurt.
I do get sore/foot numbing on both feet on the elliptical which is a common problem and concentrating on my technique has helped this.
To me it is worth paying to see a dr/podiatrist esp if its hurting for a few days.
Have you tried a compression sock? My ankle doesnt swell as much when I use one.1 -
Thanks for some good ideas.0
