I AM ABOUT TO GIVE UP!

I am back into losing the weight and being health conscious. 2 years ago I lost almost 80 pounds. Now 2 years later, I gained that and more back. I currently weigh 322lbs!!!! 2 weeks or maybe a week ago I weighed 330lbs!. My goal at the end of this week to be at least 315, but a lot of unexpected things are going on where it is hard for me to workout this week. My job is 45 mins away and when I get home I usually do 30mins to an hour workout. Today I have to stay over later and will not be home until late tonight. I will not have time to workout because I will make it home around bedtime. Whenever I do not workout I do not lose any weight!
Today I ate a green smoothie for breakfast and a Double chicken Salad for lunch

You wanted to go from 322 to 315 in one week?? I am sorry but that is not a reasonable goal.14
-
how does one double chicken?
But yeah you dont need to work out just track/weigh everything. I lost my first 50 pounds not exercising at all. Even now i just walk because i like to eat..8 -
Your goal is overly aggressive. It might be possible due to your starting weight and the standard big water whoosh at the start of weight loss. But it shouldn't be expected.7

If it's overwhelming getting back into it maybe try to get your diet down and then sit down with your work schedule and a calendar to plan out your workouts in a way that's realistic for you for say the next 2-3 months. At this point I think it would be a shame for you to get hung up on the workout aspect and get down on yourself for not going from 322 to 315 in only a week. If you set unrealistic goals for yourself you're bound to be discouraged.
Nail your diet and find a realistic way to get in even just one workout a week for the next couple of months and you'll lose weight anyway with so much to lose.4 -
Don't give up! A couple points:
1- you can lose weight without exercise. Exercise is good for several things (sanity, stress, muscle sparing, a few more calories to work with), but you CAN lose fat without it if CI<CO
2- a plan with a modicum of flexibility can be more sustainable. E.g. If your plan has one or two rest days per week, then when you have to work late, just take it as a rest day. Modify/adjust instead of giving up!4 -
Slow down, friend. Take a deep breath. Weight loss is a long game. And what you had for one meal (side note: smoothies and restaurant salads are notorious for being unexpectedly high in calories) will have no bearing on the progress you will make in the coming weeks, months and years.

I've lost over 100 lbs, the first 20 with no exercise and the last 30 with no exercise (due to an injury). If you get your calorie deficit "down" and used to it, you could lose without exercising.3

Your on here and that tells me your not giving up ! We wont let you Start out small don't look at the bigger number, just focus on one step and then another and then another. Use part of your lunch to walk if you can and focus on changing 'something'. Maybe that's taking fast food out of your diet - maybe you want to try a 'One month detox from sugar. Maybe you'll try walking for 15 min every day. There are a lot of challenges on here and you may wish to take one on to have extra support We all come in different shapes and sizes and many of us struggle with keeping extra weight off- we are here for you ♥ - You can do this ! Write down one goal tonight and the steps you will take to make it happen1 -

Easy give up.2

Breath. Relax. It takes time. A lot of time. If you cannot exercise, focus on your food. Closely. Log accurately with a food scale, and stick with it. I've lost 125 lbs over the course of a year and a half, half of my starting body weight. You can do it if you put the work in and don't give up.2

If you want to get the weight off again you need to realize that your expectations are too high.
That weight loss happens by counting calories and eating to that reasonable goal.
And that its going to take time, so you might wanna calm down and get comfortable.
That part.0 -
If you want this weight off forever, you should look for ways to make your exercise and eating enjoyable instead of stressful. Make it a lifestyle you WANT to live.6

OP, losing weight is a long journey, and no matter how perfect you do everything, you won't lose weight every week. If you have more than 80 lbs to lose, it will take many weeks and months - to quit because one week didn't go the way you planned makes no sense.
Log your food consistently, as accurately as you can. Eat to your calorie goal. Exercise as often as you can. Look for progress heading in the right direction over weeks and months. Making drastic changes and losing the weight fast often leads to gaining it back, because you can't diet forever. Taking the time to learn how to eat and exercise for the rest of your life, so you can be a healthy weight and enjoy your food and activity, is super important.7 -
Whenever I do not workout I do not lose any weight!
If you are over 300lbs stop thinking that bits and pieces of exercise are going to fix that - it's your diet and long term adherence that should be your major focus.16 -
First of all, I think you are being too aggressive with your weightloss expectations. Second, you don't have to work out to lose weight. Watch your calories. That's it. Anyone can do that, even if they don't have time to exercise.1
-
I think you are being overly aggressive with your weight loss goals.
You didn't gain all the weight overnight and you aren't going to lose it all overnight either.
I'd focus on losing two pounds a week for now, but not being hard on yourself if you don't always lose that much. Weight loss isn't linear.
ETA: if you give up you'll never reach your goals.1 -
Determined means you DON'T give up. There will ALWAYS be deterrences and obstacles on any weight loss journey. If you're COMMITTED, then you'll find a way to make it happen.
If you quit, then you go with the alternative................stay at the same weight or gain more weight.

Please do not give up. You've done it before & will again. All the above is good advice & I have nothing to add. I am disappointed in myself also because I regained lost weight, but remember you are worth it. You and I both deserve to be healthy. SO, get back up & dust yourself off. Today is a new day....my goal is to remember I only have make good food choices for one day....maybe even meal by meal. I would like to add you as a friend & we could encourage each other to keep going in the right direction. I hope you have been encouraged by all the comments you have received in response to your cry for help.1

Setting unrealistic and overly aggressive weight loss goals that have a deadline is sure fire way to make you more discouraged. You've received a lot of great advice in this thread. Some of the people chiming in have been successfully maintaining a healthy weight for years now. Follow their advice, particularly with regards to slowing down and embracing the fact that weight loss is a long process. Slow and steady wins the race - it's also a much more sustainable approach in the long run. Best of luck to you.1

I'm not going to pretend to know you or your situation at all, but for most people that is a pretty aggressive goal. My hope for you is that you take your revitalized energy and determination to lose weight as an opportunity to make a lifestyle change. Doing too much of anything can lead a lot of people to burn out and overcome to frustration which is counterproductive to accomplishing their long term goal. Setting goals is great, and there is nothing wrong with setting a weight loss goal - heck most of us on MFP did just that. But ultimately losing weight and keeping it off is about a lifestyle change and for a lot of folks that is the overarching goal in losing weight. So if at the end of this week you were not able to lose 7lbs I hope you will stick with it and not give up as the heading of your post says. Log everything you eat and drink, be as accurate as possible, do not go over your calorie allowance, and even without exercise you will ultimately lose weight. Best of luck to you.2

I hate to be the odd man out but people keep saying weight loss is slow. Its really not if you think about it XD It adds up pretty quick, Can either go put on a bunch more weight in the next 6 months or even at 1 pound a week lose 24-25. 50 at 2. I mean that adds up fast in my books...
Seems so discouraging to hear so many people saying weight loss is slow. 6 months to a year isnt a very long time, Just gotta stick to it and youll get your results. sure beats adding more weight doesnt it...9 -

Set a realistic reasonable goal of not more than 2 lbs a week. Expecting to drop 15 lbs in a week- or even a month- is not realistic, sustainable weight loss.
Weight loss is about calories. Eat the calories MFP tells you eat. This gives you a calorie deficit already without any exercise.
Log your food and drinks as accurately as you can. Use a digital food scale. Choose correct database entries.
If you do exercise then log it and eat some of those calories.1 -

OP stated she wants to lose 7lbs in the first week. Granted she has a lot of weight to lose, but 7lbs is an overly aggressive approach and signals that she has an unrealistic expectation of how quickly she can lose weight. By reminding her that weight loss is a slow process, we're trying to reset her expectations so that she can approach this in a more patient and sustainable manner.
Also, "slow" is a relative concept that is, in part, informed by one's expectations. While 6-12 months may be fast to you, it may seem like an eternity to someone else. I stand behind the assertion that weight loss is a slow process.9 -

I thought OP said she already lost 8 pounds in the first week or two (not sure why she doesn't know how long it's been). The 7 pounds was her goal for this week (week 2 or 3).

The dietician from our group told us to put in as a goal to lose a half a pound a week. That doesn't sound like much and is very intimidating, but that way you have more flexibility in what you eat, don't have to starve, don't have to feel unfulfilled in your eating. I just started this journey and have a long way to go, and a half a pound a week doesn't sound like much, but I'm at least not starving.4

I also find that excuses don't help at all. I had to face myself head on, no more excuses! It's scary, I know, but I finally had to look myself in the eye and stop my excuses.3
