Exercise bike. Calories burnt?

Hi all I've recently started my healthy eating & also purchased a excercise bike so I can get some excercise every night when my 2 year old is asleep. I'm getting married in August and I'd really like to lose the stone I gained & been unable to shift since having my son. I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me how accurate my excercise bike is when displaying my 'calories burnt' I'm 172lb and I'm excercise for 30 minutes (will gradually be upping my time) I'm currently showing between 284 - 425 depending on the speed I pedal. This just seem like a lot of calories to burn in 30 minutes, so I thought I would see if anyone knew if this was correct. Thank you for reading . x

it's hard to tell how accurate they are, they work on algorithms not so much on you specifically. Start by maybe only eating 50% off your calories back and then see if you feel that is fulfilling your hunger. If it isn't eat a little more.0

Only you know your fitness level and the intensity you are pedalling. Your weight has very little relevance for a non-weight bearing exercise.
Are you fit?
Are you an experienced cyclist?
Are you cycling as fast as you can for 30 minutes and exhausted?
I cycle a lot and am very fit - 300cals would be a comfortable pace for me over 30 minutes, 360 would be fairly fast but not maximal effort.
The range of ability is very wide but 425 cals in half an hour would be a very good performance!0 -
Each type of equipment can be different. but to give you something to compare it with my exercise bike after 35 minutes at level 7 shows that I've burned 210 calories. By the end of the 30 minutes I've broke a sweat0
