Addicted to Sampling and Over-eating

I have two problems bundled into one...

1.) I like to try EVERYTHING!! If I know it's available, I want to try it. If I haven't seen it before, I want to try it. New flavor on the shelf?... you guessed it... I want to try it.
2.) My calorie-portioned meals don't fill me up. I'm not necessarily hungry, but I always crave more. I like to taste food.

What do you do when you've eaten your portion, made yourself pack up the leftovers like a good little girl (or boy if you're a man), but you can't get the craving out of your mind for one more helping?

Living on a budget has helped with the "sampling" issues but when people do pot-lucks or bring things into work I know I shouldn't eat, it's really hard to turn down....

How have you overcome your cravings???

Drink more water, discipline yourself. You'll be much happier you did!
  • I agree, discipline! Willpower really is a muscle and you have to use it on a regular basis to keep it strong. I also like drinking a lot of water. If I just can't stand it and really need to eat something, I have a piece of fruit or some cucumber slices.

You eat whats on your plate and make sure they are the most healthy choices you can get. Moderation is key! I tell myself that I'm tired of being big so it's now or never. It's hard at first but u have to take it day by day. Yes at times you may fall but you don't let it hold you back. Never ever give up.

  • I know exactly what you mean. I tend to graze if there is food just out. I'll just pick something up every time I walk past the table. Here's a tip that I've found works for me.

When I try to not to spend money, sometimes I think about how many hours I would have to work to pay for something. So, think about how many minutes you would have to exercise to get rid of the extra calories.

Thanks all! Gum chewing has sometimes worked before, healthier food substitutions are a good idea, water definitely won't hurt, and d_llopez I loved that Nike attachment you added. wbutterfras, I might spin what you said about the calories a bit... I don't want to ruin my motivation for working out ;-) bigislandgrrl , I'll have to check out those links tonight when I'm off work. TY all!

I'll keep checking in to see if there are more tips and ideas.

Thank you again... I need all the help I can get! Admission is the first step to recovery, yeah?
