What motivates you

Hi. So I'm on a weight loss journey , and have a goal weight, which is actually more fat loss, rather than what I actually weigh, I also have a visual goal of the body I want to aspire to. My question is, when you are having a low day, how do you make sure those low days don't continue all week? What things do you do that make you able to get up the next day and hit the diet and exercise hard again? I find certain songs , that if I play on the morning while getting ready actually really help me. I need new ideas though.
Thank you

Two things work best for me, one is to get on youtube and watch some motivational video. My fav channel is Motivation Grid but there are many other good ones.
Another thing I do to motivate myself is to get on google and look for images of my competitors, I love my sport to bits, maybe I'm having a bad day but seeing my competitors being faster/fitter/thinner gives me that spark of envy I need to turn the day for the best.

For me it's more about long term goals. A couple of years ago I signed up for a triathlon even though I was out of shape, but I had time to train. My motivation was not looking like a fool. Once I got rolling and saw progress, I would think about that bowl of ice cream and think "that is going to put me behind on my training." For the day to day stuff it was finding a partner (usually my wife) who pushed me to go out and run even when I didn't want to. Or my daughter wanting to train with me. But I had low days too. After seeing how a few of those low days set me back and my run times were not as good, I was motivated to avoid them in the first place.

I downloaded the app 'countdown' and I've added important dates to it, my birthday and my kids birthday, vacation, the state fair - all things I want to look and feel great for

I set small short term goals - this week is to eat more vegetables, get all of my workouts in and not weigh myself. Also I follow fitness women on YouTube and watching their workouts not only inspires me but I also get tips and tricks on new ways to work certain parts of the body. I get on Pintrest and look up recipes and figure out ways I can alter them to make them healthy; is exciting to try new foods.

Haha, my advice is horrible. I'm the only one in my house actively trying to lose weight. My husband, supportive as he is, is terrible at motivating me to stay on track. Since I don't have money to give myself non-food rewards for hitting goals and no big events coming up to look forward to, I pretty much just shame myself? I remind myself how uncomfortable and gross I feel after an off calorie day, that all this snacking is what got me in this situation in the first place, and I ask myself how many meals do I want to skip out on to accommodate this junk food. It usually works for me.

To be honest, I'm not sure anymore. It has become something I "just do."

My original reasons for losing weight were harshly shamed and made fun. When I went looking for support during rough patches, I was harshly shamed and made fun of. When I reached goals and milestones and looked for outside validation I was harshly shamed and made fun of.

Then I realized something. I don't care. I lift hard and watch what I eat for no other reason than a sense of moral responsibility. I don't do it for anyone's approval, and there are days I wonder if even my own approval even matters. It's a chore as much as washing the dishes. It's something that isn't always fun, but it needs to be done.

I find I always come back to a very specific quote by socretes.

<i>"No citizen has a right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training…what a disgrace it is for a man to grow old without ever seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable."</i> – Socrates.

Look at horrendous photos of myself.
Go a wonder around clothes shops and see all the nice things I could wear lol

I get motivated when I lace up my shoes. When I don't feel like working out I have a saying that helps me a lot " welcome to the suck" it's a military quote, I usually always say it at the bottom of a hill half way to my goal for the day or while I'm lacing up those shoes :)

    I'm not motivated.

But I am 100% dedicated to my goal of dropping a total of 120-150lbs

@brb_2013 has a good point. There are lots of things I do that I don't really want to do or am not in the mood to do but I do them anyway... arrive on time for meetings, be courteous to people who are jerks, routine dental care, etc. I do stuff because of dedication as much (if not more than) because of motivation. it applies to diet and exercise too. There are lots of days that my run outside is the best part of my day. And there are lots of days I really don't feel like going on that run. I try to stay open to the idea that it CAN be the best part of my day, but it's worthwhile to do it even when it's hard.
