hey,
just wondering how many rest days you take.
i usually work out 6 days a week but this week took 2 consecutive days off exercise purely because i have felt worn out.... but i noticed before my workout this morning that i actually 'look' better for it. more toned. more trim.
wondering if this is a coincidence.
thanks for reading

Rest days = 0.
Unless I'm injured or unwell.
But I do vary my exercise ... anywhere from a walk of a few km on a "rest day" to an all day bicycle ride.1 -
I take 2 days normally a Monday & Friday, but on my off days I still do around 6km walking as part of my usual day and do a 15 min stretching routine. I have found having the 2 off days makes me more likely to stick at it, if I have social activities I can just move the days around without impacting my progress.slinky_shaz wrote: »

I normally feel more energised from doing my workouts, rather than lethargic. Your diary isn't open, are you eating back at least some of your exercise calories burned to keep your body fuelled?

Probably not a coincidence ... if you've been reaching your exercise limit to the point where you feel worn out, then rest probably did make quite a difference.

thank you all.
i'm trying to lose a few lbs that i put on since getting married 6 months ago but i am eating more calories than i was when i was actually trying to lose stones before our wedding and using the apps recommendations.
i have an active job and just think i feel a bit fried from that lately.

I take 2-3 per week right now. I have to give my poor legs and glutes a break so they can work hard the other days0
-
Normally 2 days, but at the moment I'm on a taper for the weekend of testing all the power numbers so I've had 3 days rest. One day of hard intervals, an easy 30 minutes, no gym so I'm feeling super fit then on Saturday I've got to do a power profile Test and Sunday threshold Test of basically pushing myself to I'm about to calspse. If I was train every day then the test would be very poor as I wouldn't be fresh enough to do I could do just not as well0

planned on 50 for the year0

1 rest day every week with a deload every 5-6 weeks which I guess is active rest.0
-
Rarely do a take a complete day of from doing anything fitness related. I consider my "rest" days as days I don't lift weights, so I reserve them for cardio and/or ab workouts.1
-
Usually 1, unless I'm banged up. My rest days also are active rest/recovery days...I just don't lift or do any vigorous cycling...usually walk and do some yoga. I usually deload every six weeks or so and just keep things at a pretty low intensity. Sometimes a rest day is just me taking my kiddos out on a recreational ride or something...sometimes I have a lot of chores to do around the house, particularly where the landscaping and yard are concerned.0

No rest days for me.. Lifting 5 times a week and playing basketball the rest. You gotta love what you're doing!!0
-
1-2, but i only really lift heavy 3 days a week, the other 3 are cardio or yoga-ish stuff.0
-
What's rest day and how do I train it?0
-
I rest as needed. I took 3 days off during January. Rarely do I schedule a rest day.0
-
I do daily activity that includes yoga and body weight circuit training. Then 2-3 times a week I do weights and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu spread out during the week. During the weekends I only do Yoga and maybe some family activities outside.0

Just to add to my original post...sometimes life just happens and that ends up being a rest day. I had every intention of getting a ride in today, and outside to boot as it was beautiful...then *kitten* blew up at work. I would normally just go get on my trainer after work, but we have company tonight and I'm chef.0 -
I rest Saturday and Sunday, unless I do cardio on Saturday.0

2 days0

3. I should probably do some cardio on one of those days but hate it.
When I first got into fitness and "working out" I felt guilty for taking a rest. Now I train with a purpose and need/love my rest days.1 -
I don't quite think of it that way, after having been quite active for a long time (years). IMO, while it's important to be active, for good life balance, there's no reason to stress over rest-day timing.
I usually do something fairly vigorous 6 days a week, but there are occasional stretches when I don't (like over the holidays when my formal classes are on hiatus - sometimes I do something else instead, sometimes not). If I don't feel like working out on one (or more) of my workout days, I just don't. If there's some all-day non-exercise fun thing to do, I might not work out on that day either.
Skipping doesn't become a long-term habit, because I feel yucky if I skip it for too long - tense, moody, tired, etc.
On the flip side, I'll do multiple workouts in a day if fun active things present themselves, or there's some other good reason (like when I've been in a rowing machine challenge that requires daily rowing - I might just add that on top of other workouts). And while I normally try for one intentional rest day per week, that doesn't mean just lying on the couch. I may do something low-intensity like a walk or easy bike ride, if that sounds fun.
I only worry about rest days in a formal way if I'm training for a race or something, and have a specific training program I'm following. Otherwise, I just stay active because it's fun, rest if I feel tired, take a day off exercise if there are conflicts, and generally play it by ear.

1 of 2 rest days for me, but they're usually active rest days so I'll do yoga, pilates, walk, easy hike, etc.0

2 days off from lifting, but I'm still up and busy and moving those two days. A complete lazy rest day happens a couple times a year.0
-
I had 7 rest days last week. Is that bad?1
-
I used to run seven days a week but the trainer at my club suggested to take two rest days.I now take off Tuesdays and Thursdays. As my body recovers I feel I am more able to exercise intensely

For lifting, two days on, two days off, on an upper/lower volume day/intensity day split.
Cardio, 2 x 2 miles most weekdays.0 -
Two days. Lift 3x, jog 2x0
