I am student teaching right now, and I have already found the work never ends! I have gone from working out 6 days a week to sometimes making it to the gym 3 days a week.
What have you fellow teachers done to help you out on days where the work has piled up and you absolutely CANNOT make it to the gym?
I know I'm moving around all day, but exercising is just part of my day now! When I don't do it, my day does not seem complete.
THanks for any tips!

I lost 20 pounds during student teaching. I didn't work out, but I was so busy I didn't eat too much! As a teacher right now, the only way I can assure I can work out is get up at the crack of dawn and get my workout in. Sigh! I don't like it, but I feel so much better during the day and have tons more energy. Good luck student teaching. It's not easy but it will get better. Remember to try and balance your personal life with your professional one. I'm still working on that!0

I agree, unfortunately the best way to get the workout in is early in the morning. But you do feel tons better, you just have to try it a week and see how you feel. Balancing the work and personal lives is a struggle. The first two years I taught I would be at work by 6:30 and then not leave until 7pm or later. You feel like as soon as you think you are close to done for the day, even more piles on. I would then take it home and continue there. That had to stop!!! I was not hanging out with friends, family or even my husband. I have learned that it is okay to say "it will still be here tomorrow" and only worry about the immediate concerns. Not sure if this helps, but it has for me. Good luck and it flies by. Next thing you know you will be teaching a few years down the road wondering how you got there so fast!0

I hate mornings so I actually work out after work! Well, it's more like I take a break to work out. My coworkers and I started a Fit Club and work out together at 3:30 Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It's an appointment and if I have more work to do - it can happen after I'm done. On Tuesdays I try to bike and every day I walk my dog when I get home- a dog is a great way to 'force' fitness, she goes crazy without her workout!
As a teacher it is so important that you keep part of who you were before you devoted your life to these amazing children. Make appointments for you to have time to yourself, otherwise you won't have enough to give to your career.

Hang in there! I am a 9th grade teacher and I get overwhelmed at times. During lunchtime (which I have about 20 minutes) I would walk for 10 minutes around the building. I know that gave me about 10 minutes to eat but I'd make a quick sandwich. I am required by contract to stay after school for 25 minutes. If I don't have students, I throw my ipod on and walk around the building. Its a nice change of pace and depending on how fast you walk and how long, you can burn up to 100-200 calories. Just remember, you have to take care of yourself before you take care of any one else.0

Thanks so much for your replies (even though they were over a week ago). My mindless brain forgot alla bout this thread (can you tell I'm busy? haha!)
I'm starting to get in the swing of things, so everything is going well. I would LOOOOVE to work out in the morning, but unfortunately I have to leave about 6:30 because the place where I'm student teaching is about an hour away. Yikes, right? :happy:
I talked to my dad too (another fellow teacher) and told me not to worry because student teaching is pretty intense and I'll learn to balance everything pretty quickly.
