Big question here...not eating enough

So, before i had ever heard about MFP, I had already been loosing weight. I had trained my body day after day to hardly eat anything at all, while still doing all my workouts (which include 2 hours of swimming Mon.-Fri.). Now that I am on MFP, it says i am supposed to have 1650 Net calories a day...and i actually sometimes finish in negative Net Calories. It still feels like I am getting all of the food that I need.... Am I the only one? and should i try to fix this? And if so, HOW?

I rarely go close to my "recommended" calorie intake. I make up for it on days when I eat out at restaurants. Doesn't seem to hurt me.

How long have you been doing it and have you still consistently been losing weight?

Yes, fixing it would be a great idea, as to how... Option A) exercise less so the goal isn't as high, B) Do protein shakes with flax oil, 2% dairy, pb, etc, C) If you've been eating not a lot for quite a while, i speak from experience when I say it's not comfortable at first to eat a good bit more, as you're not used to handling it. Some say your stomach shrinks.... Not too sure on the facts about that, but you have to kind of be full for a while.... very full.... until you get used to eating normal portions etc again.

Yeah, YOu really need to eat more. YOu may be losing weight but that doesn't mean you are burning fat. The body needs fuel to burn.

At 1600+ you have room to exercise and know you are giving your body the fuel it needs to function correctly and burn fat.

Since the diary is not open, it's hard to offer any specific advise other the eat your calories, get lots of protein, fiber and water and watch the fat, carbs and sodium. This along with your exercise should be a much healthier lifestyle.
  • I have been eating to little for about 4 months now. it seems like have stayed the same weight for a little while now, so i dont know if thats because of my metabolism getting messed up or thats just as much as i can loose.

What is your current deficit if you were eating the net 1650 or what ever it is? How much have you lost? How much are you trying to lose? Do you know your bf%?
  • I was at my biggest point, 186, and now am about 125. And i dont know what my BF% is, but i would love to know how ti figure that out.

seeing as i dunno how tall you are..... and i'm assuming you're a man? I'm wondering if your goal is realistic? and for a bf% you can try to find a trained professional to do a several point caliper test for a rough estimate.
The lower your bf, and weight, the slower you will lose and the slower you need to lose. However, at 125... unless you're like 5'4, youre very light. Esp if you're packing muscle? The more muscle (LBM) you have, the higher your caloric need is--MFP doesn't take that into account.
  • Well yes I am a man, and yes that is me in the picture haha. but I am about 5 foot 9.5 inches tall.

Yeaaaa, honey. so you're a 5'9.5 male, weighing in at 125? uhm. uhhmmmmm.... You're a little too thin heh. It's you're body, and you're going to do what you choose or feel like doing, but you have no need to lose anything. You'd be safe gaining. And if you have a good bit of muscle, rest assure your bf is very low. Esp at that weight.
  • okay, thank you!
