Getting advice is good but...

Hey everyone! Just something I wanted to throw out there for anyone that wants it but something I notice a lot on this forum is people "telling" others what they should do for weight loss, build muscle, etc. Since this is a forum and nobody really knows anyone else's situation in life, my best ADVICE would be to educate yourself first on your goal, be it weight loss or muscle growth, introduce small variables to your work outs, and take notes on how you feel and how your body responds. If it's good then great keep it up! If your body stops responding or it just doesn't work for you then it's time to try something different. I guess what I'm trying to say here is if someone is telling you that you HAVE to do it the same way they did, kick em in the nuts or titty punch them (equal rights remember), and walk away!

Best part about forums is you don't even have to touch people.

People ask for advice on an internet forum, and they'll get a little of this and a little of that. Usually there will be one, "starvation mode" answer and 55, "nope." It all works out. The knowledge here is pretty deep and if you look closely, pretty well aligned if you look at the majority of answers (not just the one "You gained muscle, muscle weighs more than fat" one.)

Its more of a free for all on MFP so I guess the OP is right on doing research first. I offer people tales of what works for me but I am far from being any sort of expert. Any request for help probably needs a filter for the replies. One example is strength training. It quickly turns into regimented heavy weight routines and massive protein with bulking cutting etc. In my case I don't want bulk, I just want fitness and tone. Getting big means my suits stop fitting and new clothes will be needed. At 55 I just want to stay fit, healthy and not get hurt. There is so much more than a one size fits all. To the OP, great post.

I wouldn't have put it the way OP did, but I agree with the main point - people need to educate themselves first. If one comes to an internet forum and asks strangers for free help, well, one gets what one pays for.

The ironic thing is that this board is full of great advice, almost all of which has been offered ad nauseam to all comers for years.

I wasn't saying that sharing what has worked for you with others is a bad thing, on the contrary, I believe that's probably how most people first learn things getting into fitness, including myself. I share my experiences with others all the time and I question others about what has worked for them. I just recently implemented Intermittent Fasting into my routine because someone at my local gym explained how much they liked it and how well it was working for them. But first, I did my own research into the matter and decided if it was healthy to try and if it would work in my cutting cycle. That's all I was trying to say.
