I have recently had a desire to run. I want to be able to run 5K. What kind of tips do you all have for me?
BackGround:
I am 26 going on 27 and I have lost over 40 lbs in about 3 and half months. I went vegetarian on April the 4th and have been only drinking water. I still have an signicant amount of weight to lose and I now want to run.

Hey,
I ran the 5k race for life for cancer research UK in June this year, I did 2 bouts on the treadmill (1 for a mile and 1 for 1.5 mile) 5k is about 3 miles, I ran the race in 33min 40sec with next to no training, I am 1st 11lb overweight, my tip would be to take it at a nice easy pace, I ran the whole 5k without stopping but I ran a nice comfortable pace so I could keep it up.
Try setting realistic goals, try running for 1 mile (1.6km) and steadily increase until you can do the 5k

I agree with this. And don't skimp on the shoes. They'll save you a lot of aches and pains in the long run.0 -
C25K is definitely a good start and I'll third the running shoes bit. Also: do not run more often than every other day. To run every day is to risk injury. Your knees and other weight bearing joints will thank you.0

If I can start running for the first time in my life last August at the age of 42, anyone can!
Starting August 1st, I am training for my first half. I have done some 5ks and 10ks.0 -

If you have a smart phone, there are some C25K and interval apps out there that will help a lot. They do the time tracking for you and tell you when to walk and run. That way you can focus on your running and not have to worry about watching the time. C25K Lite is one I've used and also My Interval Timer.0 -

get some good training shoes from your local running shop.
a good sports bra.
running leggings/capris. trust me, they give you support and are easier to run in than looser shorts.

I agree. So not skimp on your running shoes, this will be a great [and probably your most important] investment. Trust me! c25k is excellent0
