Ugh. I shouldn't feel guilty, so why do I?

Maybe I'm the only one,but I have a feeling I'm not.

I'm getting ever-closer to my goal, and the mere THOUGHT of seeing 12X.X makes me want to run fifteen miles just to see it tomorrow. So I've been being good, and today for lunch I had some chicken nuggets, fries, and a cookie. I logged everything and I'm well within my caloric budget, so WHY DO I FEEL SO BAD?

Does anyone else find themselves thinking completely...illogically?

We've been conditioned to think some foods are BAD and we need to stay away from them FOREVER!!

Truth is... no food is really bad for us. It's how much we eat and the frequency of how often we eat it. Key is moderation:)

Don't feel guilty but, drink a lot of water to help flush the sodium. :)

I agree with Voluptas63-all things in moderation. I am just starting this journey and have decided if I want it and it fits in my calories then I will have it (or a portion thereof). I cannot see me denying myself something since that makes me want it all the more then I tend to go overboard. Don't feel guilt. Just count it and carry on!
  • No, you're not alone. I feel the same way sometimes. I'm in my 4th week here. After 2 weeks of eating great every day, I had a day where i ate a candy bar for breakfast. I felt horrible about it! But unlike what i used to do (which was use that candy bar as an excuse to start an all-day binge session) i got back on track with lunch and dinner and was still within my calorie budget. I think it's easy to think that we have to be perfect with our weightloss routine, but we need to tell ourselves that it's okay to splurge sometimes as long as it's the exception rather than the rule, and as long as we get right back on track. In my opinion, those little splurges make dieting tolerable- being strict every single day can make us frustrated and want to say forget it. That's just my opinion. :)

All the time at first, but now...not so much! Once your brain wraps itself around the new rules - the guilt will go away. As long as you're staying within the boundaries that you set for yourself and you're generally feeling good about it...then zen, baby! No stress :) That is this former anxiety freak's new mindset. And it's actually working. And there are no drugs or alcohol involved either. Go figure.

You shouldn't feel 'bad', but I reckon you could have made a better choice and you probably had a better choice and this is why you feel bummed. It's alright.... there's always the next meal to make a new and better choice.

Awesome job with your weight loss!

I think you feel bad because you have set unconscious goals. One goal might be: Thou shalt never eat anything other than diet food. Another goal might be: Thou shalt reach thy goal without stopping or plateau.
Now both of these goals are doable. However, if they are not reasonable to you, you might amend them to goals such as:

Thou shalt rarely eat food other than diet food.
And, Thou shalt reach thy goal with only a few stops and only a few plateaus.

Therefore, by changing your internal wording, you may not feel as bad. On the other hand, you might feel bad because the your body is rejecting junk food now. That is common. If it is physiological and not psychological, you might want to watch the quality and quantity of the fast food you eat.

Using this site, I've taught myself that even though the calories fit into my allowance, doesn't always mean that I SHOULD be eating it. Kinda like someone comsuming a 1500 calorie meal in one sitting and saying I'M UNDER MY CALS!!

But it happens, just move on! Tomorrow's another day, plus we gotta indulge sometimes! :)

Awesomely put voluptas63!! I was on vacation last week - ate what I wanted (within moderation) drank beer, had some dessert, and still managed to lose a pound. At the same time I rode 90 miles on my bike, swam almost everyday in the lake and ran after my two year old...It was hard to let go at first and not count calories and stress about everything, but I enjoyed myself on vacation and jumped back into when I got home!
  • i Think it ALL the time... i can do really good for a long time & cheat by having a simple coffee or something & i feel guilty. Sometimes i worry that if i cheat a little every so often i am going to go back to my old habits & end up back tracking to what i used to be, but then i remind myself that i just busted my *kitten* in the gym for an hour & that im going to bust it again tomorrow & i start to feel a little better, but yea i def get those same feelings.... & Congratulations on almost getting being at your goal!!! :D

DING DING - personally as long as I can eat something and it doesn't make me physically feel like crap I've had to learn to get over this whole "Oh God - the burger will make me gain 10 pounds" stuff - if you are under on your goal (or at your goal) you WILL lose weight...

    Well put!

I do feel guilty ALL the time!! I think, oh crap.. if I didn't have that chip, I'd be THAT much closer to my goal! But, we have to stop and realize.. if we are within our calorie goal... fat, carbs, sugar, sodium goal.... we will be just fine!

Sometimes I feel like I want to shed all my weight right NOW. That feeling ends up giving me so much anxiety. That sort of anxiety can lead you to either binge or eat dangerously low, so don't humor yourself! Just stick to what's been working for you and go about it slowly and normally.
