Hi MFP peps,
I know this might been asked before and I've search the message board but I couldn't find the andwer I was looking for.. sorry if this is repeated question

The thing is, I just bought my HRM last month.. it was doing great at first but last week when I was on my stationary bike, I press the cals reading at the watch (normally I'll look at the heart rate) and I notice the reading sometimes jump... says the cals was 245 then instead of 246, it goes to 247. Is this normal? Do you experiance the same? What should I do?

Tks, ziani

Is it possible that you're burning faster than the watch displays the value?

I think it's probably normal.....if you were really working yourself hard at that time. Remember....it's not as precise as we would like it to be either so there will be some margin of error. :)
  • I have a HRM (Suunto) when you notice this jump are you still working out? If so you are burning more calories, the calories aren't going to go up 1 by 1...hopefully not, lol! If you notice, you burn calories even after your workout, could this maybe be what's happening?

HI!! mine did the SAME thing...it was jumping really bad..like from 50 something to 180 something to 220 something all in a matter of seconds!!! and Im POSITIVE my HR wasnt over 220bpm..I KNOW that is too high for me...especially doing light cardio aerobics (during the warm up)
...I dont know what caused it..I had to take it back to best buy and get it replaced...Thank goodness for warranties!!

Curious though...are you washing your chest strap in the washing machine? I was washing mine by hand..I think that may have something to do with it. when I was finished working out, I would wipe it down with cool water and a soft washcloth..but I washed it by hand with soap and water rather than putting it in the washing machine..

ETA: and yes, I have the polar FT7, purchased in March of this year..I got it replaced two weeks ago..

I have a Polar and I would say it is correct....I notice that it goes up in 2-3 sometimes depending on how active I am on whatever I am doing!!!!

Ditto! I have the FT7 and the calorie count will go up 2-3 at a time.

Thank you all... guess it's normal for polar to jump like that. I was so excited when I got that last month, love it... but ever since I discover the 'jump', I subtract something like 20% of the total cals burn to be safe

FirewifeCarrie; yes, I was still working out when I notice it
