Couch to 5k Newbie and 90 days MFP

Hey all. I have been logging with MFP for 90 days today - I am down 7 pounds...quite a bit shy of my pound per week goal (12.5). I haven't always been the best with calories - but always logged them so i have a realistic view of how I am doing.
Now it's time to kick it up a notch, so I am starting the C25K workout. I have an ankle injury from roller derby, and a continuing foot issue - so I may take longer than the 8 weeks - but I am determined to give it a go.
Anyone else here just starting, in the middle or a 5k runner & can give some support & encouragement? Add me as a friend here!
I completed W1D1 today, in 87 degree heat, and made it. 18 minutes of walking, 8 minutes of jogging. So happy I did it, but need to schedule this in the morning here in Georgia!

I did W1D1 a week ago, and have not been back..LOL! I still go for my walk in the morning but ithe c25k was rough for me. Maybe you can kick my butt and get me going again...LOL!0

I finished C25K last week. I am not a runner and was not good at running. I wasn't sure if I could do it because my knees aren't that great, but I was able to finish and I'ma ble to run for 30 minutes now. It's not easy, but if I had tried to run 30min before I started C25K then there's no way I would been able to do it.
I'm training to run a 5K in October so doing that program has definitely helped me. Good luck on your journey with C25K and remember, go at your own pace!
Also, I recommend investing in a HRM to calculate your calories. I just got a polar FT4, and so far I like it.0 -

You oughtta try C210K. The running segments are shorter 30 seconds in the beginning as opposed to 60, but the time is longer 45 minutes versus 30. I couldn't get through C25K, but I've had no trouble with C210K0 -
Well done on your start of the C25K. I've completed week 2 yesterday and tomorrow will be my first day of week 3. Looking forward to those 3 minute runs on week 3!!
It is a great program that will get you going easily.
Terri_39, I don't want to come across as a bit of an *kitten* but if you're going to give up because its hard you're not going to get there. I'd suggest instead to add a easier first week, say 30s jog & 90s walk, then perhaps try the "normal" first week, if that is still too hard just increase the jogs you were doing a little bit, say 45s and 90s walk but make sure you increase the intensity of whatever exercise you're doing regularly or else you'll hit a plateau where you won't be gaining much from your exercise.0 -
I started running about a little over a month ago... My plan was to be able to run a 5k in 8 weeks. I looked up a bunch of different methods on how to train for 5k runs and the best ways to train. I felt that the best way to do it was to just get out there and see how far I could go without stopping. The first time I could only run for about 3 - 5 minutes... so the next time I tried to run for 5-6 minutes, and so on and so forth. Needless to say I ran my first 5k about 2 weeks ago and beat my personal best. Now I am up to running an 11.5 minute mile and can run for about 4.5 miles without stopping... everyone is different and things will work or not work for each individual, but I find the best method is to just get out there and push yourself a little bit more each time. You will be surprised what you can do! good luck0

I said that I would never run but I discovered that I actually liked it once I tried it. I never did the couch to 5K but I have ran 2 5Ks and the first one was 48 minutes but my second one I finished in 33 minutes...huge difference!
I learned that I could not go out there and just run. I was killing my ankles, knees, and hips when I did that. I found out that it is not only better for your body but is really good for your heart when you run with intervals. You have to see what pattern works for you, whether you need to run 1 minute and walk 1 minute for 30-40 minutes. If you feel good after that 1 minute walk then try to run for 2 minutes and walk for 1 minute. Just like the couch to 5k slowly increase your run times. You will get better! And another thing don't look at your time at first that part really disappointed me but once I focused on my body then my time increased.
I started running about 3 1/2 months ago and I do it at least 3-4 times a week (outside or on the treadmill) and when I can't run I crave it now...crazy!

Thanks for all the positive run feedback & success stories! I also have said I only run when being chased, so even trying this is a big deal for me. I have a feeling tomorrow I will be hurting...0 -
good luck! I just finished my second day of C25K today, and it felt much better than the first; at the end I was wanting to run more but sanity returned and I reminded myself that I'm just going to follow the program for a few weeks until I have a better sense of what my body can handle in increased exertion. The first day I only ran 1 minutes and walked 4, figuring I'd feel better easing into it, and then today I did the 2 minute runs, 3 minute walks. I'm going to go ahead and do this at least 2 more times so I get the full 3 weekly sessions before moving on. there's no hurry, I know if I follow it reasonably, I will get there.0

synay - no need to rush it - I agree! Easing into it doesn't make you any less successful!
Fastbelly - funny, I did make my husband keep track of the times so he was my 'chase' to keep me going!0 -
Did my C25K workout today - 4th day doing week 1 (2 min run, 3 minute walk x4) - the first day I did mostly 1 min/4 min, so I did an extra day today before I moving on to Week 2. Feels good, looking forward to next week's challenge!0
