Cheat Day

Tomorrow is a friends birthday, and there will be lots of junk food. I don't want to ruin the mood by weighing everything, and don't want to have to count everything I'm consuming, so what should I enter in for the amount of calories consumed? Thanks xx

Guesstimate. Find entries that are as close as you can guess and log by volume. It's just one day, so just try to not go nuts and have a good time :drinker:2

During the holidays I went to visit family for 3 days. I logged 6,000 calories each day and added a food note stating what I ate. I pigged out. So I think my calories were higher.
Just guess and monitor how it impacts your progress. I bet it will be minimal impact.0 -

More often than not, you eat well and watch your calories/macros/etc...

I would probably not eat. I go to parties to socialise and celebrate the occasion, not eat food (unless it's specifically food related, like a dinner).... I'd rather eat proper meals before and after!0

There's no magic solution. Either you track your calories and stay within your budget, or you do not.
In those situations, I limit how much I eat and keep track of it in my head so I can log it later. I'm good enough at estimating how much I eat that a little error doesn't worry me for one night.
If you don't keep track, then you just have to accept that you have given up some unknown amount of your progress for the week. How much? It's hard to say unless you keep track. It's not the end of the world, it just means your progress will be slower. That's a reasonable choice to make, as long as you don't make it too often.
Friend's birthday party's come up pretty frequently. For me, that's not a good enough excuse to blow my calorie budget. But for you, it might be. Either way, choose and be happy with your choice.1 -
I usually have 1 cheat meal/ day a week. I had friends over Friday and we ate pizza and chips and drank a lot...I put on about 1 1/2lbs but it will be gone and then some by my next weigh in. sometimes I don't even gain just depends on how crazy I go. I enjoy myself and just go back to it the next day. I personally couldn't do this without being able to go a little off track every now and then. So enjoy yourself!0

The best thing you can do is make smart choices. At this point, you may be more aware of portion size, so take that into consideration. Maybe instead of alcohol or soda, drink water. Maybe you could eat before you go, so you're not as tempted to eat because you're not hungry. There's nothing wrong with having a little snack now and then. Don't stress yourself out about it.0

I would eat very light throughout the day. That way you will have a lot of calories saved up for the party and you can have almost anything you want....log the best you can... or don't log it's your choice.0

One day of eating bad would not make a difference likewise eating one day of healthy food wouldn't make a difference. Also, instead of having a whole cheat day you rather just have cheat meal. When you get back home, get back on the grind.0

Just don't worry about it. Enjoy yourself and treat it as a one off. By all means don't weigh items and log, it winds up putting focus on you and will likely stress you out. So don't go crazy and eat a pizza, but also don't go crazy and make yourself miserable by denying yourself, or being 'that' person who weighs and obsesses . It is a journey, one day may set you back a bit, but be sensible the rest of the week.
To the person who said one healthy meal won't make a difference, I agree, and one indulgence party is not going to block you long term. I went to a brunch festival yesterday and ate god knows how many calories. I did not stress about it, had a good time and enjoyed myself, and rest of week will eat well, and did an extra long mountain bike session today.
I know for some people if they aren't strict all the time they fall off the wagon. So know yourself, but whatever you decide, this is a journey and there will be bumps in the road, and scenic bypasses that may add time, but you need to enjoy life too!0
