Hi, I've been on for 3 weeks now. I know thats not a very long time but I have absolutely no progress to show for it. I exercise 40 minutes of cardio a day everyday, was eating 1200+ calories (not net). I'm 122 pounds trying to get to 115 at least. I really don't understand how the body works with the whole eating 1200 net calories thing.
If your looking at my profile I recently changed to 1500 calories cause i was just starving and it says I lost 4 pounds but that was an error i made when i started my account.
Any help would be great its just getting really depressing not knowing what to do..

do some weight training.
change up your workout routine. try something new. make it INTENSE.
eat more protein .. less carbs less sugar.0 -
Been on here 45 days can not lose. Basically go up and down 3 lbs! Do 900 to 1300 cals a day and work out 6 hours a week, including weight lifting. You are not alone. I know people on w watchers who never exersice and lose a lot of weight doing 1500 cals a day? I did that and gained 8 lbs!0

Don't give up yet!
You've only just started! Unfortunately it can take time for your body to adapt, stick at it and remember the reason why you've started this journey!
also, i hate the scales, they put me off when they say i haven't lost when i know from my clothes/compliments that i have lost fat, but gained muscle
try giving the scales a rest for now and take measurements instead good luck!!!!!!0 -
Everyone is different. Try other things out. How you feel and look is just as important as the numbers. Have you considered getting a heartrate monitor so you know exactly what you're burning? That way you can also check your heartrate and see if your workout is intense enough for you0

If you have access to the smart phone app for this site, use it. It makes it really easy to examine exactly where your calories are coming from. I recently realized I am not taking in enough protein but too much fat. While my numbers haven't dramatically changed, I'm going to alter my diet and see what happens. (Plus, you'll get lots of helpful insight from posters here. MFP people seem pretty amazing with their commitment and progress.)0

I didn't see any fruits or veggies in your diary. Maybe start there. Less processed foods, more whole healthy stuff. The Starbucks and candy are killin' you (in my opinion). Strength training instead of cardio or try High intensity intervals (HIIT). You gotta play around till you find what works for you but switching things up often helps weight come off. Keep at it!0

Don't get discouraged - continue doing all the right stuff for your body, it is bound to pay off. I was here before and lost 33 lbs, with a loss of 1.5 lbs most weeks, but after I lost 25 lbs, the weight loss became slower, but I still lost smth every 2 weeks or so. I tried to stick to calories the best I could, did both cardio and strength training.
I gave up after a while, unfortunately, and gained about 20 lbs back... I restarted recently. And like you, the first 2-3 weeks I did not lose anything!!! But eventually I lost 4 lbs.... so I keep going....
My point is to say that here I am, doing very similar stuff both times, but results are different (1st time consistent loss every week, 2nd time no loss for 3 weeks). However, there are results!
Don't get discouraged. Even if you are not losing weight, there are so many benefits to eating healthier and exercising. Good luck. Keep it up.0 -
....and also from checking your diary, try eating less more often
it seems you have 3 main meals a day and all your cals are sitting at each one
try a healthy breakfast for a good start, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner0 -
1. I suggest reading some of the newbie "sticky" threads to see what you can learn from those.
2. Really check with how close you are to your goal-are you already a healthy BMI? The closer you are, the "harder" it is to lose.
3. What are your goals set at? Make sure you're only trying to lose no more than .5lb/week. That probably means you need to eat more than 1200 calories a day. Also, If you're netting under 1200 most days, that will make it harder to lose.
4. Add strength training in. Instead of cardio every day, alternate between the two. Building your muscles (no, you won't bulk up) will really give you a lean look. Also, take a REST day. It gives your body time to recover from all the steady exercise.
5. Change up your workout. Besides the strength training, change up the kinds of cardio you do. It's good to "shock" the body with different exercises.
6. Up your protein, reduce carbs. Works for a lot of people, especially if adding strength training.
7. Make sure you're not eating too much sodium and are getting enough water.
8. Be patient. Weight loss can be a slow process, but constant good habits will pay off.0 -

Ok I know I am new, but for those of you who are eating between 900 and1300 calories a day AND exercising and havnt lost weight in quite a while there is something I read recently, and as soon as I found the article I will post it in the thread. But I have been doing alot of research (its what i do when I get interested in something, read read read)
Your body may be in starvation mode. Here is something you can try if you want to change up and reset your metabolism and MFP can help you with this. Check your settings and make sure you have your activity level set correctly. Do you have a job where you are on your feet a lot? Such and mail man, sales clerk or even waitress as I am? I know it is hard, especially for us women, we want to loose as quickly as possible and think that less is better and faster, and we have the will power to make us live on very little. But it will shut down your metabolism. So after you make sure your activity leval is correct......
Then put yourself on maintenance. For a week or 2 or 3. Continue to exercise, that will charge up your metabolism. You may gain one or two or even 5 lbs but you will loose it quickly again and a lot more as your metabolism is burning efficiently. And this may be hard for you to eat that much in the beginning but as important as it was to eat so little before now it is even more important to make yourself eat that much. After a period of time where eating that much feels comfortable and normal to you, then you can reset your weight loss goal. I would recommend eating back your exercise calories or at least half of them. Make sure you are meeting your protein and carb goals, and water is VERY VERY important. Oh something else you could do is check out your sodium intake?
Also, are you taking a daily vitamin and any other vitamins you may feel a need for? I know a few people on weight watchers were not loosing weight and as soon as they started taking vitamins the body let go of what it was holding on to. I dont know how it works, maybe your body thinks you are not in starvation as much if you have the nutrients you need?
I was on weight watchers and didnt loose ANY weight. Here is why I think I wasn't. Weight watchers had me on 1100 to 1300 calories a day depending on how I used my points. But I am a food server at the Cheesecake factory. If you have never been there that is a HUGE restaurant. And I run for 7-8 hours a day carrying HEAVY dishes and trays and pounds and pounds of dirty plates back to the kitchen and I sweat A LOT. But weight watchers didnt take this into account at all. I dont know why they didnt. So I came over to MFP and lost 3 lbs the first week and no longer felt like I was going to try and eat my own arm if I didnt eat SOMETHING lol. I know when I had one of those metabolism trackers called the body bug a few years ago that on a busy shift I would walk 10,000 to 13,000 steps and burn as much as 3000 calories. And they had me eating 1200 and I WASNT loosing weight?
All I can say is I am a poster child of NOT eating enough to loose weight.
Ok now I am going to go look for that article I was referring to and post it below.0 -
