Is this MFP calorie burn for real?

Big walking day today at 6 Flags. I recorded about 5 hours of walking-should I trust that I seriously burned 1000 calories doing this?

    Eh, it's not accurate.
    It doesn't know your heartrate.
    It's a rough estimate.

I never go off the MFP database.

Take your heart rate manually a few times, average it and enter it here: http://www.braydenwm.com/calburn.htm

I always use that to figure calories burned. Hope that helps! :drinker:

I've notice that when people go to an amusement park or the zoo, whatever, they log half the time they were there as walking or what not.
  • I wore my HRM when I went to Knott's (also walked around that length of time). It said I burned around 1200 calories. I'm 5'3" and was about 233lbs when I went. Maybe that helps? Either way, its activity, so good job!!

Walking seems to be one of the things that MFP is pretty accurate on. That being said, it is only accurate if you know how fast you were walking and take into account how much time you actually spent walking not time spent sitting in line or other things. 100 calories per mile is a pretty good estimate, could be a little more or less (depending on weight).

Walking does burn a lot of calories- I burned 725 walking for 4 hrs (10 miles) last week so sounds about right 1000 for 5 hrs.
