Balanced Diet

I'm currently dealing with a neurological issue such that I've had a headache constantly for 9 days. It's not a migraine, unfortunately, because if it was it would be gone by now, but it's certainly of migraine level intensity.

Whether as a direct symptom of the same issue or due to exhaustion from the pain or the stomach issues pain relievers cause, I've also got a lot of nausea and I don't feel hungry most of the time. When I do eat, I only want about half of what I usually would. The last several days I've mostly been able to talk myself into very plain salads (no dressing) and plain bread.

This has me wondering about protein in particular. I'm not getting 0 - even salad has some - but it's a lot lower than normal, and that's what everyone in ordinary life always says "make sure you get some protein".

Obviously I hope this situation is temporary and I'm working on getting in to see one of my doctors ASAP, although unfortunately the neurologist isn't very helpful and keeps just pushing weight loss. I don't plan on staying on a very restricted variety 800-1100 calorie diet long without talking to my doctor. But in the meantime I was wondering if anyone knows which thing I should be focusing on - try to get a little more protein? Just try to eat what my body will accept and not worry about it?

FYI I don't think I can do meat or smoothies. I'm trying to convince myself beans aren't gross but it isn't going so well.

Could you stomach a glass of milk or so? It has protein and fat and isn't thick like a smoothie...

I might be able to do milk, I hadn't thought of that

Can you do a shake? With no other food, the extra calories wouldn't hurt. And shakes are delicious.

Unfortunately no. The texture is a problem.

Do what you can and what feels right.

Can you eat oatmeal or grains like rice? You could try mixing protein powder into those and you would also get a bit of protein from the grains themselves.

With an intense headache for that long you should go to the emergency department.

I agree with this. ^^ A headache of that magnitude for over a week warrants tests.

If that's not going to happen and you live in a state where weed is legal I'd try that. That will likely relieve your headache and improve your appetite.

I hadn't thought of protein powder in rice, that's an idea.

I've actually been to the ER already. They gave me a pain shot and sent me home. At $400 each visit it's hard to justify going back, especially since I literally just had an MRI (I'm waiting on the Neuro to tell me the results).

No legal weed here either. I could certainly obtain it anyway, but I'd be afraid the Neuro would get difficult about treatment if they found out based on the documents they had me sign.
