Hi,
Does any one know a vague amount of calories you would burn in a one hour pole dancing lesson.
Its my second ever lesson, I am 5" 3 and 172lbs if that helps, I have had a look around this site and the internet but can't seem to find a general amount anywhere...

Any ideas anyone???

Thank you :)

The closest of pole dancing is to add it as (Dancing, general) which is for an hour 310 calories. I Hope it helped... :-)

    hi
i am a pole dance instructor
you cant add it as dance unless you are doing non stop dance round the pole - which is not the case in most lesson
you will be learning trix and spins and some moves round the pole too
i tens to break the lessons down and add it on as
    warm up - aerobics
    trix and spins - gymnastics
    dance - dance
    and strength training - calistenics
    hope that helps
if you are constantly moving during your pole class you could burn up to 280 calories in an hour
    :)

Fantasic thank you, I saw the Dancing - general but didn't feel that would be correct, I thought from last time it wouldn't be constant work!
Thank you so much for the replies, :)

I go to a class with very little actual dancing. We basically warm up and then spend the whole time learning tricks and spins. I put the class in as gymnastics, but I only put it in as 50 minutes even though it's an hour because I feel like the warm up part is less intense. I also feel like it changes depending on my energy level or what I'm working on that day. For me, the important part is building muscle that boost the amount of calories you burn while resting. It's so super fun though isn't it!

id say your best bet is to log it as dancing and then take calculate the minutes you actually WERE dancing.
  • see here: http://www.livestrong.com/article/296144-calories-burned-in-an-aerobic-pole-dance-class/ - calories burned differs based on your weight, i.e. "A 130-lb. woman will burn about 350 calories in a one-hour class...A 120-lb. person...would burn only 320 calories. A 180-lb. woman would burn 485 calories..."

    hope that helps!

    Hi guys :)
I also do pole dancing, but (blush) i am 220lbs... (down from 242! :D)

any idea on the amount of calories I would burn in a 60 minute class? I put it down so far as 300, but if the last post is on form then it would probably be along the lines of double that...

    BEST answer:
Take your weight (lbs) x 2.69 (cal/min for a 1 hr class/workout) = how many calories you burned in that hour.
    Ex: 120lb x 2.69= 322 cal/hr
    130 lb x 2.69= 350 cal/hr
    150 lb x2.69 = 403 cal/hr
    180 lb x 2.69 = 485 cal/hr.
    Hope that helps!!!
The more you weigh the more cal you will burn. It might be more that 2.69/min but its a damn good avg.
